Charnold (http://www.caweb.de/) has released another new and awesome looking version of his PSP - Dungeons Game, the game iself looks like a throwback to Wolf3D but with much better visuals. Check out the screenshot:

http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/dungeons.JPG

Heres what the author says:

The changes for v0.5:

- renders 3d weapons

yes it does! just stick it in the GAME folder not the GAME150 one, then it should work smoothly,

write now im doing my best to mod/make levels for this, im very interested, my only wish is that it had a GUI map editor for the txt, cuz i dont have much of a clue how to work it. but hey, its a new release, and mods can be worked out later, this is really cool, props to the author

It works like a charm! I had the same problem as you after kxploiting, but I decided to leave it as is in the GAME folder and it worked fine.

October 28th, 2006, 00:28
Yeh, I had problems when I used psp brew to kxploit it and hide the corrupt icons, however I dont know why but with this one you need to leave the folder as it is. Altho it also works if u kxploit it but keep the original folder name (ie: 'Dungeon' and 'Dungeon%' )

its a cool game/demo, but im not liking the default controls.

With this release you don't need to kxploit the eboot. However If your looking for how to kxploit a homebrew eboot all you need is psp brew or pbp unpacker. both can be found via google.

October 28th, 2006, 01:07
Or kxploit, ya know, the original program that did kxploiting ;)

Cool program, I am gonna take a look at the map editor see whats up with that. Wish he had a thing to play custom maps from the start screen.

Will be awesome when it gets refined - Lighting, Aiming, better AI, etc.

mods please

Personally I'd rather see this come nearer 'completion' than get modded. Modding it in its current state would only wreak havoc on trying to keep it up to date with the latest features.

Let me guess, this is yet another release that NOBODY can run?

F9zDark
October 28th, 2006, 04:29
Worked fine for me. Its just in 1.0 PSP format. Just run it throught Kxploit, PSPBrew, etc to get it formatted for 1.5.

May work as is with 2.71 SE-B, don't know though. But it works great.

he should consider multiplayer now that would be great

F9zDark

Yeah that'd be awesome. And would probably support more players than most commercial PSP games (most I have seen is 6 on a PSP multiplayer game).

October 28th, 2006, 05:51
Kool, just got it to work using pspbrew. Very nice game, would be kick ass if there was

multilayer

a map that you could look at like DOOM

if there was like different kinds of guns /w recoil when u shoot them

different bullet shoot things.

more diverse assortment of sounds

Different kinds of enemies ( monsters, etc... )

And...thats all i can think of right now :D !!!

Ps: the controls on the game right now are super weird, their like backwards :P

F9zDark
October 28th, 2006, 06:00
You can adjust the controls to your liking in the Controls menu.

A Doom style map wouldn't be too hard to do, I am gonna spend some time looking at how maps are made and see what I can do with it.

this is why 1.50 is still the greatest

carish
October 28th, 2006, 13:50
I really like this game.

For the 2.71SE, you can put a dungeon folder with just the eboot in GAME150 then the entire Dungeons folder in GAME and it works fine, or if you have the revision B you change the place of 1.50 kernel eboots to GAME and it works too.

For the 1.50, you download PSPBrews, and you patch it for your firmware.

I have had the same problem with R-Gear who also needs to have the game's data in GAME folder.

I just took the time to play this homebrew. I was very skeptical towards, but I discovered it to be an excellent homebrew. Seriously guys, it rocks so much ass!

I just had to make a few adjustments to the controls(they were messed up to begin with)

Some things I would like to see in a future release:

- music/creepy sound effects
- more of an atmosphere(everywhere looks the same)
- quieter footstep noises
- ability to avoid bullets hitting you(every time a shot is fired from the enemy you get hit)
- First aid kits/health to be restored at the end of each level (I only got to level four

I was completely wrong! This is quite impressive. It runs really fast. The 3D enemies look great in action, and so do the 3D weapons. Even the levels were kind of fun to play for a little bit! It'll be awesome if this ever becomes a game with more features like multiple levels of elevation, rather than sticking to boxed rooms like Wolfenstein 3D.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it blows Quake away. It certainly looks better than Quake, but Quake still has multiplayer and is far older. This game will be the Quake replacement when it's finished as the graphics are much better and this guy is still doing more work to it apparantly.

hehe...

was messin around with this a bit and got a halo weapon loaded into it ( still not working well...not all the textures are loading and the postioning is a bit screwed but hey....its working so far :D )

now only if the maps could be made a bit more sophisticated........

other than that...really nice release man... i give it a thumbs up :D

Thanks for Everything,

the reason I said it blows quake away is the engine... it runs a LOT smoother than psp quake, and the character models look so much nicer. granted, I LOVE quake and quake 2, but if I'm going to play those, that's what my pc is for.

I've never been one for multiplayer, so that's really not an issue to me.

But, yea, I hope it's updated often and doesn't end up like TOO many homebrews and just sit there waiting for someone to take over.

Chances are you probably cant play ANY Homebrew games frrom memory stick?

If that is the case, revert back to 1.5 (by using the instructions for the Recovery Menu), and then redo the 2.71 SE Revision: The most safest way to do this is to download the four incremental instals from Dark Alex's web and do it in the following order:

(1) 2.71 SE Revision A
(2) 2.71 SE Revision B update
(3) 2.71 SE Revision B'
(4) (3) 2.71 SE Revision B''

Try again - and this game and others should work fine in SE.
