Article by Curmudgeon Gamer (http://curmudgeongamer.com/2006/10/why-is-sony-holding-back-on-psp-demos.html)

After zakk suggested I try out the Ridge Racer 2 demo for the PSP and Sony announced the Loco Roco Halloween demo, I figured, I'd see just how many PSP demos there are. Here's one list, among others. The number of demos out there is pitifully small, especially for a broadband-enabled system with plenty of local storage.

I tried out the Japanese game, Kazuo, known as Go! Sudoku over here. It plays far better than I'd've thought, considering the complexity of the input, and I'm now putting that game on my to-buy list. It's only $20 new, and less than that used.

As far as I can tell, Sony doesn't provide any page with a listing of PSP demos anywhere on its site. I can't browse to the Sony PlayStation site with my PSP, even, and have it provide a list of demos to try. If an official page exists, please tell me where it is.

Update: I forgot earlier about the problems I had with the PSP site (viewed via the PSP) -- it wouldn't log me in. Just tried same username/password again and it's now allowing me to log in. I found the PSP demos page. It has three sad little demos: Loco Roco Halloween, Loco Roco, and World Tour Soccer 06.

I cannot understand why Sony is being so stupid.

When I was a Windows game player, I loved demos, and more than one of them turned into purchases. It kept me in touch with my system and I played it more as a result. Microsoft is doing something similar with downloadable demos of newly released games on Xbox Live for the Xbox 360.

Seriously, does Sony want the PSP to fail?

This is very true. But yet very sad. Sony needs to flip there head back over and put it on straight, or else this is gonna get worse and worse for Sony:p

Actually there are quite a few demos out there. maybe not on the sony site but theres: motogp, mercury meltdown, world tour soccer 06, exit 2, block club, and a few others. Thats not including the UMD demos. But theres always room for improvement:D

I'ven't really appreciated demos until the first ones for the psp came out. When the first couple were released, I thought there would be tones more comin in. and when i say tons i mean like 1 demo for every two games. I guess i was wrong.

there are lots of demos for the psp just about every sony game has a demo its not sonys fault if the 3rd party doesnt put out demos and who cares anyways. the psp has great games out just in the last week ace combat, nfs carbon, snoopy vs the red baron, gun, medal of honor, atv offroad fury. all great games and better then anything on the ds. so just shut up already the psp kicks ass and there is a little game called gta vcs that comes this week that game alone is enough for me to own a psp. so if you dont like the psp who cares shut the hell up and give it to somebody who will use it and love it too many damn hateres

PSP demos have never really peaked my interest. I enjoyed the Killzone demo & also the Halloween Loco Roco but these quick, single game demos are to few and far between to really matter.

What works is demo discs with multiple playable games, game previews, interviews, etc. like the XBOX Demo's that come with every official XBOX magazine.

There should be regular UMD demo's released with several games on the UMD. This included with the official Playstation magazine would be an effective marketing platform similar to the XBOX magazine.

The fact that SONY does not yet have a iTunes like download service tailored to the PSP with free demos and such now and then shows a real lack of product enthusiasm. If SONY isn't motivated about their PSP, how can consumers be.

The PSP was touted as the next best thing when it comes to handheld gaming but sadly I think the DS Lite is showing it up.

I got the Killzone demo in Septembers issue of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine. It comes on a UMD but I ripped the UMD to a very small .CSO file (21MB) and played it off my memory stick with DevHook. It was a good little demo with WORKING multiplayer also.

i dont know wat the **** sony are playing at right now, they used to be a highly respectable company now they are just a laughing stock at every angle.

its like when tom cruise started jumping on oprah's couch and saying he wanted to eat his babie's umbilical cord, all of a sudden everyone thinks he's a twat hu is either mad or having a laugh.

cant help wondering the same bout sony.

The PSP's games could make big bucks if demos were released. There's a lot of games I would've bought if I'd known what the game was going to be like, but I don't want to buy any disappointing "mystery boxes" like I did with Field Commander and Legend of Heroes.
Sony's stingy with the demos. They only released the Killzone Liberation demo via a UMD that had to come with a special subscription or something...

I am pretty satisfied with Field Commander. I think its one of the better PSP games. Anyway, the Magazine with the UMD could have been bought at any bookstore like Barnes & Noble. Thats where I got my copy. Although, not surprisingly, a lot of the copies had their bags ripped open and the UMD demo was missing in action.

Yup, thats pretty much how I feel. I think more FULL games should have more downloadable content. But again, theres no money in that. Why continue to please consumers AFTER the game has already been bought?

sony is affraid so that an exploit throuh demo is revealed, if comparing umd with his demo there is very big chance to find encyption key, its like playing with fire
also last update f***ed the sp for good many users have problems with their browsers, its rendered almost useless :P
i think they found a bud security in browser

The online downloadable demo's are ok'. But they need more physical UMD disk demo's.
Here in Australia I don't think a PS mag has ever come out with a UMD with it.. Can't be that expensive to produce? Better than UMD Movies, hah.
Was happy to find Sony are sending me a Syphon filter demo but (I do own the full game already) But I think of it as a collectors. :D

I would like to see more "special edition" demos like the Halloween Loco Roco. How about an English version demo of that (very rare) Hot Shots Golf: Coca Cola Edtion? That would be sweet. :D
