Today Namco Bandai announced that the music puzzle game Gunpey DS has gone gold. In homage to the game's late, legendary creator Gunpei Yokoi, Q Entertainment has finished putting its updated spin on the title, a fast-paced puzzle game that flaunts sharp graphics and music-based gameplay. With a slew of playable characters, unlockable musical extras, multiplayer capabilities, and a plethora of original music, Gunpey is a portable puzzle game to watch this holiday season.

"While deceptively simple upon first glance, Gunpey offers hardcore gamers a true challenge and surprising depth as their skill level develops," said Naruo Uchida, VP of Localization at Namco Bandai. "Frenetic gameplay combines seamlessly with Q Entertainment's trademark visuals and music to create a truly unique, visceral puzzle gaming experience."

The game's original designer, Gunpei Yokoi, was on Nintendo's payroll for years and is the man behind the Game & Watch series, the Game Boy, and, unfortunately, the Virtual Boy. He also designed the WonderSwan handheld system, but was killed in a car crash before its release. Gunpey was his last game design.

They also forgot the games he has done and the fact the Virtual Boy wasn't 'unfortunately' designed by the man, really no one else could have possibly made such a system, and the system itself and he too were merely victims of circumstance, it's rather hard to sell ANOTHER game system while selling two others at the same time, a console and a handheld. And of course, being spread across two platforms already, development manpower was all but plentiful for it. But then again, as the saying goes: You cannot spell ignorance without IGN.

I read how he was given the cold shoulder after the failure of the GameBoy advance. Pretty wrong huh?
