New devices will be rolled to portion of 17,000 employees.
RIM is currently trying to revive its shelf life, with development on BlackBerry 10 and a new Android app platform, which allows conversion to BlackBerry.
However, it isn't soon enough as US federal government body, the General Services Administration, is watering down use of RIM's smartphones, with the introduction of iPhones and Android-powered devices, according to Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/14/us-rim-government-idUSTRE81D1SX20120214?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&dlvrit=56505).
In an interview, Casey Coleman, chief information officer, GSA, said: "We actively seek to be progressive in our adoption of new technologies so that we can learn the lessons which will inform our client and customer agencies as they seek to go down a similar path."
Initially, RIM was selected a secure means of mobile communications, but rival devices have managed to match BlackBerrys for security, leading to the arrival of direction to Apple and Google phones.
Additionally, the firm's four-day power outage last year, can't have won RIM any favours.
