Fake game splurge on Android Market.
The problem of rogue apps seems to get worse by the week, and threatens to de-rail the progress of the Android platform in particular.
These products pose as real, well-known games, and once installed re-direct the user to ads or – worse – set up diallers that sap credit from the user's account.
They can also post ratings and share themselves on social networks for further propagation.
Malware specialist Trend (http://blog.trendmicro.com/category/mobile/) notified Google of the rogue apps, which removed them soon after.
Tend analyst Kervin Alintanahin blogged (http://blog.trendmicro.com/category/mobile/): “Quite obviously, this trend of apps being equipped with aggressive advertising methods — especially those related to search monetization — will be seen for quite a while. Thus, users are advised to be extra careful when installing apps.”
