Samsung makes official announcement after a couple of false starts.
Google's Ice Cream Sandwich OS debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/samsung-unveils-galaxy-nexus/015888) in the UK during Q4 2011.
However, while the Android OS is gradually receiving additional rollouts on new and existing devices, it currently occupies just one per cent of all Android-powered devices (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/ice-cream-sandwich-on-just-one-per-cent-of-android-devices/016919).
Now, after Samsung originally dismissed the rumours of an ICS rollout to its flagship Galaxy S II phones, the Korean firm has tweeted, saying: "#ICS for #GALAXYSII will be available today in Europe including Poland, Hungary, Sweden, & Korea, & gradually roll out to other markets."
Additionally, JK Shin, president of IT & mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics, says: "We expect that our customers will enjoy an enhanced experience with their Galaxy device through this upgrade. Samsung is committed to satisfying our customer needs."
The S II has already sold over 20 million units (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/samsung-sells-20m-galaxy-s-ii-phones/017141) and the ICS availability could increase the demand, especially as Samsung is yet to make an official announcement about the release of the Galaxy S III.
