No this isnt for port requests and it does not have to be open source. Have you been playing a totally awesome freeware game that you would like to share with people? This is the thread to do it in! Here are my 3.

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
If you dont know what this is, you must be living under a rock. This game was apparently supposed to be a commercial addon but was later released not as an addon, but as a stand alone client. hundreds if not thousands of people play this game.
Google and ye shall find

Tribes.
This game used to be commercial but a few months ago I was happy to find out sierra was releasing it for free. As of a few months ago at least there were still hundreds of people playing this game. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL MMO FPS! Well above 100 people can play on one server. Its looks aged, but its still good gaming!

GTA and GTA 2
Rockstar out of the kindness of their hearts decided to release the two classics as freeware. You know what these are.

got any more? add em. NO ILLEGAL LINKS OR YOUR ASS WILL BE BANNED.

I used to play Gunbound all the time and I think it's the funnest PC game I've played. Until they moved the North Americans to the "ijji" servers and now it doesn't work on my computer anymore...

abandonware 4tw!

It wasnt me that gave you the warning, but let me explain somthing to you. These games do not fall under the category of "abandonware". abandonware is a term usually used for games that are not exactly around for commercial purchase (though usually they are) but have not been released as freeware. "abandonware" (which is a term created by a bunch of morons that though they had an obligation to torrent commander keen and duke nukem even though they are still commercially sold) is illegal, games that are released as freeware are not. I think this is a common misunderstanding.

i understand, and i'd have accepted the warning whole-heartedly if i had posted any links, gave any specifics to any particular games that were considered "abandonware", or tell anyone what it was.

i simply stated that they existed.

idk, seems kinda messed up gettin a warning for mentioning the existence of something.

anyways, no hard feelings to either of u :)

While i was looking to see if tribes 2 was now free (at one point it was, but they are no longer giving out cd keys) I stumbled upon something interesting in wikipedia.

http://legendsthegame.net/
I havnt tried it yet, but apparently its sort of an open source tribes clone. It looks like a lot like tribes 2. Its out for windows and linux and it could be a blast if you like the tribes style fps's or even if you want a mod project. check it out.

It was a warning without points. it doesn't count towards anything other than letting you and other see that it's not right.

THIS THREAD IS BACK FROM THE DEAD!
You will either hate or love this game. I played it a long time ago at a friends house. It's called Savage: Battle for Newerth and as far as I can tell it was released as freeware back in October of last year... or something.

Its a mix between a real time strategy game and a FPS. Sound weird? You bet your ass it's weird. If you dont have a decent connection its a pain since splash damage is very limited and a lot of the killing is done with melee weapons.

Here is how it works, you have 1 commander guy per team, who does stuff and commands you with the classic over head view you all know and love for RTS games. You can choose not to obey the commander, but it could ultimately make lose. You also can get rewarded for doing things like mining redstone and gold. This will provide your commander with the means to build different structures with upgraded weaponry and stuff. Check this game out! It's for linux too!
