Wii is outpacing PS3 2-1

Wii vs. PS3 by the numbersWii is outselling PS3 by more than a two to one margin, according to unconfirmed calculations.

According to the website NexGen Wars, as of 11:38 PM EST, Wii has sold a whopping 607,004 consoles compared to PS3, which has sold 255,172 units to date.

Is this accurate? We have no earthly idea, so don't go betting the farm on it. Here's what the website has to say:

The next generation of gaming is upon us, and the console wars has begun. NexGen Wars.com has spent countless hours researching sales facts from dozens of sources to track the worldwide sales of the consoles and monitor the next generation of console wars between the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Sony Playstation 3, and the Nintendo Wii. Remember, these numbers are only estimates, but they are constantly monitored and upated to assure the closest estimates possible for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii.

It'll take a wee bit of time to catch up to Xbox 360, who has sold 7,080,863 bad boys to date.

Isn't that like saying the PS3 has better graphics than the Wii simply because it has a better graphics card and then trying to discount graphics as a comparisson point ?

Hardly a surprise though as punkypine said there were more Wii's for sale, and far more of them wanted to buy them to play rather than sell, that's the interesting thing if you ask me :)

Why did Sony have such a piddling amount out on launch day?

Is it really long-winded to make or something?

Why did Sony have such a piddling amount out on launch day?

Is it really long-winded to make or something?

Because Sony treats this like a new laptop release or a revised TV. They are out to bring all this hype and it bites them in the ass.
