Staffordshire police are after a hijacking gang who turned over a £500,000 lorryload of Xbox 360 consoles and games in the early hours of Monday morning.

At least three men in two cars - believed to be a Range Rover and a Rover saloon - flagged down the truck near Lichfield, shortly after it left a distribution centre. The men indicated there was something trapped beneath the wheels.

The 46-year-old trucker was then attacked and his vehicle, owned by distribution firm Hellman Worldwide Logistics, was stolen. It was carrying a shipment of a new WWE: Smackdown vs Raw 2007 Xbox 360 bundle which is due to launch tomorrow, according to Amazon.

The driver was later treated in hospital for superficial injuries. The emptied trailer was discovered abandoned on the A38 near Sutton Coldfield the same day.

Police are appealing for the driver of a red Subaru parked on a road leading to the distribution centre at 5am on Monday to come forward. The Mirror reports it is the second attack in five days on the distributor's Xbox shipments and the firm is conducting an internal security review.

I can only hope that some of them make it to Stoke and appear cheaply in a car park out of the back of a van or something equally dodgy when I head over there in a couple of weeks, not that I'd condone buying such hot goods of course, though it would give me a chance to try those asbestos gloves I was given once ;)
