View Full Version : Wiimote launches through window, insurance coverage questionable

While we initially felt Wal-Mart was being a bit old fashioned by not allowing Wii demo kiosks to be setup in stores due to "safety concerns," Walton and friends apparently had a good bit of foresight that we weren't aware of. After numerous reports of television sets getting the axe, and an innocently bystanding HP iPAQ getting all cracked up, we're wondering if folks aren't just staging their own Wiincidents at this point. Apparently warning everyone of how jeopardous these free-flying Wiimotes can be wasn't really taken to heart, as now a butterfingered gamer has quite an interesting tale to tell to the presumably skeptical insurance adjuster. While busting a few moves in Wii Sports, the nonsensical user let the controller fly, but instead of landing softly (and harmlessly) on the couch, it rocketed straight through his window, leaving a fairly dangerous scene as proof of gaming negligence. C'mon folks, we've warned you all enough by now, either strap on that thoughtfully included wrist strap, grab some sticky gloves, or tape up the windows -- your property, your call.

Photoshop magic.

Or people lying and saying it's the Wiimote to kill Wii sales.

I dont get mine til the 8th so I dont know about the documentation that comes with the Wii package.

does it anywhere state that the wrist strap is to protect against Wiimote slipage? and does it say anything about how aggressive the Wiimote can be swung? because some of the vids I have watched look like major misuse of Wiimote.

me personally will NOT be swinging as aggressive as some of the vids I have watched, and WILL be teaching the kids the same, BUT I will still use 2 straps at a time and inspect them after use for fraying.

And how did it manage to break the glass at such a low level BEHIND THE TV???!!!

and how did the Wiimote cause the hole and all the cracking, that looks to have been caused by something more football size where the initial impact would cause glass to come out and the surrounding area of the ball to cause the cracking, because some thing smaller that would pass thru surely would spread like that.

or as mentioned, Photoshop..

I don't understand all these people breaking tvs and windows.
I've been playing my Wii since last friday, not once have my WiiMote slipped out of my hand.
Do people just ignore the warnings when the game boots, about USING the DAMN strap? Idiots!!

IF YOU ACCEDENTALLY SEND IT FLYING ITS NOT THE WIIMOTES FAULT LOLLOLOLLOLOL.

The stories are getting more and more silly. It's stupid. *lol* First it was a TV, then a monitor, then a light fitting that broke and caused bleeding, now a window? It's getting hard to tell which are genuine and which are just mocks.

The real story behind this, as far as I can understand (I followed the original thread in the Nintendo boards (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=revolution&message.id=2604953&view=by_date_ascending&page=1) the other day, where the poster got mercilessly flamed for being so stupid), is that the Wiimote actually knocked over a large trophy, which then went through the window.
According to the poster, the Wiimote was virtually unscathed.
