View Full Version : Devhook 3.00 sooner than we think ?.

Kando has set up a new forum thread for some v3.00 PSP hybrid firmware investigation. He claims that 'Birdman' (Not to be confused with the bird from Sesame Street) and 'James' have managed to get v3.00 loading in Devhook. However there is a little bit of bad news as you can read here. IT does look promising :).

thought this could use a new thread:

after coming home, looks like birdman and james got their heads together, and birdman figured out how to get 3.00 to load in devhook

the only problem is the individual resources are still pulling off of the flash0.

so the bad news is that it will NOT be released tomorrow, but know we are hard at work.

That's not what this means. This means, 1.5 or 2.71SE users will be able to run 3.0.

and the 2.71SE-C mod is still going??? Those visuals look really good.

Yeah, it will be good, and I would prefer a good and well working Devhhok and have it slightly later that a crap version now, so no pressure, release when you think it is ready!

Its 3.0 that introduced the PS1 emu; but you need a PS3 to download the games.

When I said this the other day, some as-clown slated me for spreading misinformation. Apparently, (according to irongiant the ass-clown) this is only the case until the new year when sony will be allowing anyone to d/l ps1 games.

Well I sure hope so, of course that might need a new firmware upgrade...

You shoulda told that ass-clown that right now we need a PS3 to download PS1 games, which we do... It was on the front page a week or so ago. But I suppose there is no point in arguing with an ass-clown lol

From what i read, you need ps3 to both download and play the ps1 games. The way i understand it is that you need the ps3 to emulate the ps1 hardware, and the images are transmitted to the psp from the ps3. Button pushes are transmitted to ps3 for interpretation.

I agree with the others on the rush. Don't rush the devhook, just release when it's ready and you're happy with the results.:)

We can wait for this groundbreaking homebrew.

I checked the Sony site to see if I can find any insight into this and didn't find any. So hopefully someone with an updated PSP and PS3 around here can shed some light on the issue.

mikebeaver
November 29th, 2006, 16:40
you do need a ps3 to get the ps1 emu to work, but it runs directly on your psp so you will need a larger memory stick if you dont have already.
there is still no point in upgrading to 3.01 and i dont see it happening in a while, what with this latest devlopment, we have the best coders in the world working on psp homebrew solutions, why cant sony just help them not put up barriers to stifle creativity.

Watch Sony remove the need for the PS3 and patch the 3.00/3.01 firmware so that you can't run Devhook on it.

mike03$$$
November 29th, 2006, 17:51
yes finally I would've upgraded to 2.71 for that se stuff but that looks complicated and theirs a risk of bricking your psp from flashing

Watch Sony remove the need for the PS3 and patch the 3.00/3.01 firmware so that you can't run Devhook on it.

Sony can't do that since devhook uses the same fash0 as the real 3.0 unless sony makes a 3.50 and and have a upgrade for ps3 with that patch on it. Its not possible
Right about now unless of an upgrade is there and that's how sony srews up since they put that psx download station on ps3 instead of psp so its really not possible

I'm wondering if the PS3 'compiles' the eboot for the iso and then transfers a working eboot that is like the downloadable games such as loco roco. That would be a good reason why sony would have released it first on the ps3 (for slowing down the reverse engineering of how the eboot is created)

But I have only a PSP, no PS3 so I couldn't even say if the files are a large eboot, or iso and eboot. Is there anyone on here that can clarify what their PSP downloaded PSX from PS3 looks like when its on the PSP (filewise)?

darksoft
November 29th, 2006, 19:11
If that were the case, then hopefully they just pop in the iso into a 'template' file that someone could do a hex search for inside the created eboot. I'm sure its encrypted but dang that would be nice.

Basically then you could prolly just pop in an iso into that template file in place of the one that is supposed to be there.

Doubt it; Sony probably made a special fileformat that is recognized by the PS1 emu and PSP 3.0 firmware. I doubt they would use eboots because:

1)We have an Eboot unpacker and could unpack PS1 games if they were in this format

2)If the PS3 could compile SIGNED Eboots then we could essentially hack the PS3 to figure out how to make a program to sign our own eboots (something Sony would NEVER do.)

Sony would be stupid to put PS1 games in eboot form, not to mention, to make a PS1 game work on other PSPs that its not meant to would be easy if they were in eboot form, since one would only need to edit the SFO.

It has been true that with SONY firmware upgrades the homebrew scene sees a spike in activity. So in a way, SONY firmware upgrades can be seen as good to an extent.

With Booster reportedly back in action and now this news, it shouldn't be too long now. I don't mind waiting.

Hopefully 3.00 or 3.01 will work.

Well we all knew that Booster wouldn't let us down and would 'return' for 3.00. In fact it was the smart thing to do as many before pointed out; no need for Booster to have showed Sony his hand with 2.80 and have them make a work around for 3.0.

The new DevHook has been released. Its called DevHook 0.50. It emulates 2.82 firmware. But 3.00/3.01 is in Boosters todo list. So between the hybrid methods, Dark_AleX's work, and Booster, things should really start getting exciting.

This release is 100% authentic and coded by Booster. He entrusted Mathieulh to release it on MaXConsole.

Hopefully it will be posted here at DCEMU momentarily.
