News/release via Redkawa (http://www.pspvideo9.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8559)

Wii Video 9 is a free video conversion application developed by Red Kawa. It allows you to convert your computer video files (like avi, divx, mpeg, etc.) into the specific video formats that are playable on the Wii.

Wii Video 9 can also be combined with Videora, another software application, and together they can let you automatically download and convert video for your Wii using BitTorrent and RSS technology.

I've tried it. Its ok. It does exactly what it says it does. No more, no less.

The only problem is that the only video format that Wii supports is motion JPEG, so when you convert to that, it usually lowers quality and can make the file 10X the size.

Has anyone actually tired converting and playing a full length movie?

I don't have a Wii yet so I have no idea whether or not this sort of thing would be worth the effort.

What formats does the Wii support?

Oddly enough, it seems that there are two answers to that question.

The official answer comes from Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/sdCards.jsp#file_types), and says that you can only play Quicktime movies on the Wii.

However, if you look at this program for the Mac (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21888), it seems that they are implying that the Wii plays AVI files.

AVI is a container, and AVI can be any number of formats depending on the fourcc code.

An AVI from a camera is mjpeg 99 times out of a hundred

An Avi from a PC is a divx or xvid 99 time out of a hundred

This was a DivX AVI. The Wii requires mjpeg yeah? I can't get WiiVideo9 to convert to that either. It's converting to a file with 0 bytes in it.

I get the feeling this maybe more hassle than quality? Perhaps better sticking with a DVD player?

Cool to know it can though.

Well it's fast to convert videos, but in MJPEG format they are huge. I converted an episode of South Park that is 22 minutes and originally 175 mb, and ended up over 500 mb.

well this seems like a cool thing, the question is what is he going to do now that they updated the wii to version 3.1 which changes allot of the system specs as far as what u can play in the photo channel and has he shown this product to nintendo i mean something like this could land him a job programming for them. I program but my skills aren't anywere near his im still tryn to figure out how to programm for the wii. Good luck and im going to try it and hope fully enjoy it as well. hikogi-sama
