The Sony PlayStation 3 European debut - due to take place in March 2007 - will be accompanied by a major firmware update, a senior Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Europe executive has revealed.

Alas, SCE Europe VP of Technology Paul Holman, cited by Australian website Smarthouse, didn't say what the update will contain, though he alluded to "new features [and] new gaming capabilities".

Those capabilities look set to enhance the PS3's ability to operate as a media centre system, Holman indicated, and may even include utilities to allow the next-generation console to download alternative operating systems. At least one Linux distribution has already been announced for the console.

Since the PS3 launched in the US and Japan last month, a number of issues have emerged, including incompatibilities with some older PS2 and PSOne games, and problems driving HD TVs that support the 1080i resolution rather than the 720p and 1080p resolutions the PS3 favours. Sony has hinted that fixes for these glitches are in the works, but provided no indication when a patch might be made available

As expected Europe gets the best deal.. a 3 month delay but a PS3 with more features, more games and the launch teething problems ironed out. Patience is a good thing.

That's one way of looking at it but am quite sure if we (potential buyers in europe) are given the choice, we all want it the same time as the rest of the world instead of having to wait till march!
I also dont see how we are getting a better deal when it appears that we aill be paying more for the same console over here iirc (about 20-40 pounds difference when compared)

Will a Japanese ps3 plays all UK games? Im in the process of getting one from SucessHK...any advice appreciated. Thanks.

From $1,251.28(with 10 games and 2 Blu-Ray Movies) = £636.41
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45023
It shows a preorder for a PS3 with only 4 games and NO Blu-Ray Movies=£699=$1,383.
Thats over $100 for a system with 6 less games and no Blu-Ray Movies.
If you caught up with just the six games it is an EXTRA £330, taking the system to £1,029 with comes to $2,023.37

Put it like this. British Cost ($) 2,023.37 take away US cost ($) 1,251.28 totals $772.09 saving for the US PLUS 2 free Blu-Ray Movies. That is a lovely £392.74 extra for being British.
**** you irongiant and your pro-Sony Bullshit. We, the Europeans are getting screwed over all ends up. Nearly £400 EXTRA for waiting nearly 5 months and NO Blu-Ray movies included. **** Sony.
