Restructure for BioWare Austin after MMO loses 25% of subscribers
EA has announced layoffs at Star Wars: The Old Republic studio BioWare Austin as part of corporate restructuring.
This comes shortly after the revelation that the MMO had lost over 25 percent of its subscription base.
EA claims the figure of 1.3 million subscribers was well past its goal for the game, but investors were not happy with the news, and stock prices took a dive amidst worries about the health of the game months after its release.
"Sadly, we are bidding farewell to some talented, passionate and exceptionally hard-working people who helped make SWTOR a reality," reads a letter (http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=4435219#post4435219) posted on the game's official forums.
"Impacting people’s lives this way is always very hard, but we’re ensuring the affected people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect."
