Gearbox (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/95)co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/1632)has praised Nintendo's Wii U (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/2295) GamePad for being the "best controller I've ever had from Nintendo (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/155)".
While Gearbox has passed development of the Wii U version ofAliens: Colonial Marines (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/2351)to Shoot Many Robots developer Demiurge Studios, Pitchford has had regular contact with the project.
"When I play with the controller, I immediately realize that for the types of games I like to play and make, this is the best controller I've ever had from Nintendo," he told Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/171665/Gearboxs_Pitchford_on_Aliens_evolution.php)in an interview.
"For Aliens: Colonial Marines, it's really exciting to have that screen there because I can do things that are very unique to this universe.
"For instance, we have a motion tracker in this universe. Now our motion tracker can literally be in our hands and we can see and hear it –and scan the room in 360 degrees, since it's a motion device."
It's high praise for a controller that has yet to prove its hardcore credentials, and curious too given that Nintendo has just unveiled its Wii U Pro controller (http://www.edge-online.com/news/e3-2012-wii-u-pro-controller-revealed) - a device much more in line with traditional pad design and one surely aimed at courting those players put off by Nintendo's idosyncratic interface designs.
