Bloomberg has reported (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-21/microsoft-s-surface-tablet-said-to-be-wi-fi-only-in-first-models.html) that the first versions of the Surface tablet will only feature WiFi connectivity.
There will be no immediate plans for the 3G/4G options according to people ‘familiar with the matter’. Bloomberg’s sources, which have refused to be named, claim: “Microsoft is equipping the device with a Wi-Fi short-range connection.”
As most tablets solely feature WiFi, this might not be much of a surprise if Surface was considered ‘just a tablet’. But with its Pro version featuring Windows 8 in full along with Intel Core i5, many are looking to Surface as a serious rival to the iPad, which has 3G/4G connectivity.
Microsoft’s Surface tablet is expected to launch in October and is rumoured to cost around $599 for the ARM-based Windows RT version, and around &799 for the Intel-based Windows 8 Pro version.
