I was going thru my ps collection of games to try out. DDR (us) sits at a now loading screen (waited 5 mins for it, should be more then enough) and I don't know anyone posting this, sry for reposting if it was but don't feel like spend a load of time looking since I'm trying games of different genres to see it's limitations if any, final fantasy 7 on disc 1 had a small offset in certain sounds, and the arrow for the menu in the battle screen has a graphic glitch. So far, 20 games with some wii time, no other problems other then I need a bigger mem card for more storage I've come across. Great job, and keep up the awsome awsome work for the future of homebrew psp owners and their community.

ps: minus a few Aholes out there, you know their out there somewhere , to ruin every one elses lives.

Is there a way to remove or edit the description that pops up in every game?
The one that says "Put on some pants and head out to the course in HOT SHOTS GOLF®2!"

You did rename your PSX backup to image.iso , right?

THPS2 all runs full speed, sound is great but there is a graphic problem all the way around the edges of the screen.

Download PSPBrew from here:
PSP Brew v0.80 (http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid=8816)

You can then delete the all of the .png files from the eboot. It make take 1-2 minutes to open the eboot because of it's size.

Yep, I have popstation.exe, BASE.PBP, KEYS.BIN, image.iso, and the pops.bat file. Whenever I run the line in cmd or batch, it just brings up that same message. I've tried all my psx games, none will convert.

I also have all the updates for microsoft windows xp if that helps at all... :/

Move the files to c:\popstation. Then put the cygwin1.dll in your popstation folder. Last open up command prompt, and type:
c:\popstation\popstation.exe image.iso

Let me know if it works. ^_^

My Final Fantasy 7 version is PAL and it works fine. Only problem is the screen is slighty misplaced and cuts off the top part of the PSP

Someone should start a thread just for compatibility reports.

Rally Cross 2 by 989 Studios worked up to the point where you actually start the race, then crashed.

THPS3, the europe version works, slighlty not in the center of the screen. Suffers from the graphic problem as THPS2.

Up until 30 mins ago I had the same thing.

I followed someones instructions and it's all good.

My popstation folder looks like this,

base.pbp

DOCUMENT

KEYS

pops (note pad, write--- popstation.exe image.img/iso/bin --- whatever you file is)

popstation

image.img (your game, if it's other than an .img then change to suit)

Have that .dll file in windows/system32.

Open the pops file.

before i upgrade to this nu firware i want to be able to play mgs all the way thru is there a way of swapping discs ect or has anyone played with this longenough to have tgot to that point on mgs on psp???

Tinnus
December 26th, 2006, 01:30
There's no way to swap discs. Most you can hope is saving between discs like FF does, but I think MGS doesn't do that. I think you're screwed then...

sorry about what i said earlier. it seems bin files and img files do work..

another oddity is.. monster rancher. just for shits and gigles i wanted to see if it would load a monster by reading the iso and just thinking it was the monster rancher disc (it usually gives you some red wolf monster) but instead i got a plant... its apparently reading the disc differently than on a real PSone.

If you want to get rid of the transparent information field when creating one of these then
create a blank txt file and rename it "PIC0.png"
This way only the "ICON0.png" and "PIC1.png" are displayed.

jmister102
December 26th, 2006, 02:08
Yeah I can't get it to work either. I have all 6 necessary files, but when i double click pops, it just instantly opens and closes. My CD image is a BIN file if that means anything (Crash Bandicoot 3).

Finally grew enough balls to update my PSP...

But now I need the keys.bin... ;_; I have no PS3! Gwaaargh! LOL.

Either way, this was pretty save... You just gotta read the readme, follow it... And do what I did: Listen to the video made by the guy with the alien avatar for courage... and voila!

Oh yeah: How big is the Keys.bin file? (In kb's)

MogHunter
December 26th, 2006, 02:12

Read the darn thread, you have to run the pops executable through the DOS command prompt or create a .bat file as specified earlier in this thread double clicking it through windows explorer will do nothing. This question has been answered four times in this thread already....

Man this is really peeing me off. How hard is it for some people to follow instructions?

I believe they were refering to pop.bat, such as the instructions someone provided earlier.

Oh, TNT Motorsports' Hardcore 4x4 works pretty well, but with no sound. Odd, no? I'm guess I'm gonna try SW masters of Teras Kasi again... If I had bigger than a 2 gig ms, I would try xenogears or heart of darkness, but my ms is low on space now, heh.

You have to go to run -> Cmd ... its command line based people, you have to remember dos. Use CD to go to the directory and type in popstation "image.img" . Or use a bat if you are dos-illiterate

Wow, Dark_ALEX, thanks alot! First game I tried was my Castlevania:SOTN (my original copy that is). I ripped it into image file with Alcohol. Followed the instructions in the readme and got Castlevania to work!!! And man, it runs as if I was playing on the PSX itself.

Guys, not sure if anybody posted this link, but if anyone's having trouble, here's a tutorial by onizukaryo from Max Consoles.

This isn't really related to the PSX Emu, but this thread IS actually about 3.02 OE-B... but anyways, game demos don't work for me anymore... MotoGP, Ridge Racer, Etc... they just won't load. Black screen and then my psp shuts off. Is this FW related? Anyone else try to run any of the old demos?

Edit.. D'oh, I'm an idiot. I had my firmware setting @ 1.5 on the GAME folder in the config. That MAY also be why Hardcore 4x4 's sound wouldn't work... Who knows.. Ah well, sorted.

@djk21108: Great guide :thumbup:

@Ramza042: I think you have to go to the Recovery Mode and make some changes to which modules should be loaded, but I can't remember which ones to enable. Sorry :(

To everyone else, here's a tip that might help: Make sure you're using a really good memory stick. I tried using some crappy stick and I couldn't run any of the PSX game, but if I used a really good stick, it ran perfectly.

Anyways, thanks Dark_Alex for making everyone's Christmas really special :D

To anyone having problems with just getting a black screen when loading:

Try ripping the games at 1x and directly creating either an ISO or an IMG. As far as I know, the converter supports both of those formats, because I used an IMG, and it worked perfectly. Changing from one image format to another may cause data loss, which may result in it not loading properly.

Thanks M8, I got it, I was just a dolt, I had my settings for the "game" folder to run as FW 1.50 instead of 3.02. Demos are working for me again.

Side note, I used cdrwin to make a bin/cue file or Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi, and this time it worked perfect, if anyone has the game and wants to try it. Unfortunately, after taking the time to convert it and copy it over to my PSP, I realized why I quit playing it in the first place. It SUCKS! It's really not THAT bad of a game, but for Lucas Arts, I have to say I'm a little disapointed. Of course, LA's never been known for fighting games. :D

You have to have the game running in your GAME150 folder, or your Game folder, depending on how you have game golder homebrew setup. Its basicly the folder you have your emulators in, weither its GAME or GAME150.

Also After adding in some custom pics for the XMB, I noticed that you can change the game name in the eboot file. I changed it from Hot Shots 2 Golf whatever to Tactics Ogre LUCT and so on(theres two locations with the name). I won't bother telling you how to find them, you just need a hex editor and ctrl+f :P
Also you can change the name of the Save Folder

Heres what the game name will show up as in the eboot.pbp: Hot Shots Golf..2

Heres how the savedata name will look: SCUS94476

I changed the game name and it seems to work good.

Also, if you do not change the name/prodcut code thing, all your save game info(if you use more than one psx game) will be under one save(which might be good or bad).

Your sig says you're still at 1.5, did you actually update? heh. Make sure that you put it in the "game" folder if you have 2 folders, and make sure you have the firmware setup right for 3.02. Do you know how to get to the recovery mode? if so, that's a start.

i shall explain only once

1- have your iso image ready
2-place your iso image into the same folder as the popstation file is found
3-place the hotshot golf2 eboot along with its KEYS file into the same folder as the popstaion file, rename the eboot to BASE.
4-get the cygwin.dll file and put it into the same folder as the popstation
5-(if you want to) put the pic.png and icon.png(i dont know if you name it that) and put it into the same folder alond with the popstation file
6-go into your command prompt
7-type in cd desktop/the file directories and hit enter (remember the file directorys have to be changed to the folder name of where the popstation file is being held in) then hit enter
8-type in popstation name of iso.file extention then hit enter
9-the converting process will start then you'll see a eboot file in the flder where the popstation file is
10-create a folder in your game folder with the ps1 games name
11-place the eboot along with the KEYS.bin into that folder and your all set.

Dpthcorenass8

if u have 2.71 se-c (which you should cause it was awesome) then u have recovery and should not be scared at all. i should no i bricked my psp while haven 2.71se-c (thank god) and just reinstalled 1.5 fw on it. u need 1.5fw and 3.02fw also the 3.02oe-a download. follow the readme its not hard at all... takes about 5-10 mins to finish all up after u put everything on your psp. after installen 3.02oe-a just download oe-b and place the folder in your game150 folder go to xmb load it up 2 secs later done u have oe-b

So we need to actually own a PS3 and buy one game and get its subsequent keys to make this work?

And how does this benefit the scene whatsoever?

Not to sound like an ass or anything, but everyone has been coveting 3.02 OE-B as the GOD of firmwares and to be honest, if I need to buy a PS3 and a PS1 game I'll never play to begin with to make this work, how is this firmware any better than 1.5? We got a PS1 emu that doesn't require us to buy ANYTHING.

I don't know if this has been questioned before, and if it hasn't I don't think it'll be answered. But here goes... How to play games on multiple discs? Do you merge them into one eboot in some way or do we have to save before disc change (not all games support this I think) then change disc eboot?

Not to sound like an ass or anything, but everyone has been coveting 3.02 OE-B as the GOD of firmwares and to be honest, if I need to buy a PS3 and a PS1 game I'll never play to begin with to make this work, how is this firmware any better than 1.5? We got a PS1 emu that doesn't require us to buy ANYTHING.

Well, you could buy a PS3 and then get the game legally, or...I think you know where this is going.

The PS1 Game Hot Shots Golf 2? Sorry mate, acquiring, legally, requires a PS3. No amount of 'reading up' will rectify that matter, since Sony doesn't plan to change it until March at least.

But I will be the bigger man and let you slide on this one. I mean, you only have 7 posts, I can't imagine you are as well read up on the issues around here as someone with 800 posts...

I think the micro drive might be the problem since I heard at one time that people had some trouble trying to run homebrew on it.

I say, if you have at least a 1 gig memory stick hanging around (not the fake type), do the conversion of your PSX games and see if that makes a difference when you put them into the ms:/PSP/GAME folder.

If you got a 512 mb, try looking for a game in your PSX library that's small enough when you rip and convert it. After that, test it to see the game will run if you put it in your ms:/PSP/GAME folder.

The downgrader is for non-TA-082 motherboards. Open the UMD slot, and look for the number C1003 on the right hand side on the interior of the PSP.

If that number is present then you have a TA-082 and CANNOT downgrade. If it isn't there, then downgrade at your own risk, but if something happens, don't blame anyone around here.

Legend of Legaia (NTSC) crashes when going into a fight. Has graphical glitches.

Now, don't laugh as this is my sister's game, Inuyasha A Feudal Fairy Tale (NTSC) runs fine until you get the the "Round 1" part of any fight and it sticks. You can still move and jump, just no actual fighting. Crashes in training as well.

1. I see some people were converting their PAL games to NTSC. How is this done?

2. I am new to custom firmwares and will be upgrading my 1.5 to 3.02 oeb (hopefully if i can lol), what difference is there in using kernel mode 3.02 vs kernel mode 1.5?

3. If I upgrade to 3.02 oeb will I have to redo all of my homebrews that are kxploited and move them into a new folder? IE game, game150 etc.

Im at work now and just want to get everything ready by the time I get home haha. Thanks for any help.

I have a ceramic white PSP with FW1.5. However it also got the IC1003 marking in the top right of the disc tray. Got it in Hong Kong.

I dont know much about PSP's but I have heard that the 3.02 OE firmware doesnt work with unit that has a TA-082 motherboard, and that the IC1003 marking in the top right states that its got a TA-082 board.

But I also heard that the TA-082's cant run FW1.5 which mine clearly is. Should it be safe for me to upgrade to 3.02 OE-A (and then B) or am I bound to brick my PSP if I do?

Thankfull for help as I'm totaly new to this.

But: Can there be any updates that touches compatibility? I mean, the emulator is written by sony and not dark_alex, so even he can't do anything in this direction, or am i wrong?

I believe the PSP's POP emulator supports plugins as mentioned even in the readme.txt. I'm working at getting a PSP and will be seeing if I can update the GPU using psx4all's very compatible softgpu written by Unai. He even got Tony Hawk Pro Skater's polygon bug fixed and did an amazing job. If I can get the GPU plugin file from POP compatible with psx4all's softgpu, compatibility could be higher and things should look better/correct where they currently aren't in POP.

@jman420: You need a custom firmware (3.02 OE-B) to run these games and not on a real 3.02 firmware.

@Silmido: You're out of luck because you have a TA-082 and at this time, there's no way to run 3.02OE on that board. If you do run this firmware update, there a chance that your PSP will brick.

@MacSurf: What were you trying to do? Go to recovery menu or downgrade the PSP?

I just spent half an hour re-entering my credit card information and it keeps saying its invalid (I promise you the information is perfect and i do have money in the account). But i still cant get it to accept my card so i can pay for hot shots golf. Is there an alternate way to get the base.pbp (Hot shots eboot.pbp file) and the keys.bin file needed?

Please someone help me out.

Ive solved that problem but i have another...ive read this entire thread and i cant find an answer to my problem >.<.

Im having the same problem some were having, in the command prompt line where it says it cant open the "Image.iso". Well, ive tried the pops.bat but from what i can tell...it doesnt change into a .bat type? it just stays a notepad file with the one line of info i was told to place into it...

My files inside the folder are:
BASE.PBP

KEYS.bin

image.iso (I think ive seen people say this and the .iso gets censored and replaced with asterisks( * ). Its Image. (I-S-O) and its the first disk to FF8 that i ripped from my FF8 copy.)

readme (Readme for the 3.02 OE-B popstation stuff)

popstation

pops.bat (Notepad file, inside i typed "popstation.exe image.iso"

try a different format for your disk image... .bin files seem to work better...

Look for a program called Cdrwin. It's shareware, meaning you have to pay to use it for recording cds faster than 1x. However, it rips cds a lot faster.. takes about 2-3 minutes to make a bin/cue file.

you guys really need to read before you post things... yes this is an update but its not 3.02 its 3.02 OE-B... this means it has 1.5 and 3.02 kernel running on your psp. this means it is 1.5 and 3.02 at the same time. there is also a RECOVERY folder which is placed in the root of your mem stick. once you power on you hold R down to enter it. through this you can downgrade back to 1.5 get out of a brick or w.e u want... for the rest read more on 3.02 OE-A you need to install that before OE-B anyway...

Update: Resident Evil 3 works perfectly up until you play as Carlos and you get the vaccine, after the hospital blows up. When you enter the door back to the Clock Tower, the game freezes.

The same exact freeze occurs in Resident Evil2 when you try to enter the RPD station.

Is there a way to change the clock speed, or will there ever be? Some games like Brothers in Arms: D-Day run at horrible speeds at 222mhz and run much better on 333mhz.
Also, some of my homebrew, like IR Shell, isn't working at all. It just shows "corrupted data" for IR Shell and says that it can't start. I've tried putting it in both GAME and GAME150 but it makes no difference.

Rip your old PSX games and use the popstation tool to convert them to eboots and drag them into the PSP/GAME folder, and you can play all your PSone games on PSP... If you dont have any PSone games PM me and ill link you to some premade eboots...

If you want to be legal, then yes, you have to purchase one of the games from the PS3 Store, I'd advise any that works with 3.02 (the older ones like Syphon Filter or Crash Bandicoot) but it doesn't have to be Hot Shots--I'm doing fine with Syphon Filter.

Okay, forgive me if this has been covered, i've read through the threads many times, but this is still a bit confusing... I created the game just fine, got it all loaded up, the only problem is my firmware.

When i try to run the 3.02 oe-b update, the psp restarts, then gives an error message saying the "game" couldn't start. I'm currently running at 3.02, the most recent sony update since i have never had a reason not to update. Would i have to first flash back to a previous firmware before i make this upgrade? or am i out of luck? Please help!

You can only update to 3.02 OE-B or any other custom firmware with a 1.5 PSP. A PSP running an official 3.02 firmware cannot be 3.02 OE-B or any other custom firmware. At this time, there's also no way to downgrade 3.02, so you're stuck with no PS1 games, unless you get a PS3 and buy the very small number of games Sony is selling.

For those of you that upgraded 2 3.02OEA and cant run 1.50 Homebrew. All you have to do is use the recovery console and go to the option that lets you set the Kernel to 1.5 instead of 3.02.

When PSP first came out, I admit it is an amazing piece of electronic, but it never made be interested because there are no gd games at all!! I tell myself if sony release a FFVII remake on this platform, I would have bought it even just for this game. That I was thinking, may be someone had already invented a ps1 emulator for psp already after all this time. So i google it and I was amazed and relief!!

I am planning to get a PSP now so I can play FFVII and SOTN, but I am still in doubt of a few things. I notice that ppl are getting a lot of problem trying to get this to work, so I wanna clarify a few thing b4 I go ahead and buy one

I found a PSP value on ebay and it is tagged firmware 1000. Is that mean it is v1.5?

After I update to 3.03OE-A, can I still play all the official UMD games without bein ask to update my firmware?

The most important thing i want to know, Can I play ps1 game like FFVII and SOTN widescreen mode with the graphic distorted. May be its a silly question, but i am urged to know :P

Honestly, I don't see what's so great about Final Fantasy 7. I played a crapload of the first disc, and before I finished it, I just got too bored.
There's no such thing as firmware 1000. If you mean 1.00, then it can be upgraded to 1.5.
Custom firmware 3.03 OE is just 3.03 with dramatically improved capabilities such as those found on 1.5 and, as you're aware, PS1 emulation, so of course you can play standard UMD games as you would on the normal 3.03 firmware.
FF7 isn't magically formatted into widescreen just because it's converted to be playable on the PSP. You can play it in a normal size or in widescreen, but widescreen will stretch everything.

No, you cannot play any homebrew of any sort with a 3.02 firmware, you cannot install a custom firmware, and you cannot convert your PS1 games to PSP playability on a normal 3.02 firmware. Sorry, man. It didn't work last week, it won't work now. You should've researched it a little more if you actually wanted homebrew BEFORE you got the PSP.

Widescreen is distorted. It's VERY distorted. When playing a 3D game of mine, Medal of Honor, on the PSP, widescreen didn't look that distorted to me. If anything, it looked like the game was supposed to be widescreen.
However, I played a 2D game called Command and Conquer, and widescreen made it look blurry and awful. That happened for me on other 2D games, as well.
My conclusion is that 3D games don't look very distorted in widescreen, but 2D games look horrible.
