"TechCrunch reports that Dell will be officially re-entering the Linux laptop market (http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/18/dell-gives-linux-laptops-another-chance/). Beginning this fall, it will sell a 'developer edition' of one of its Ultrabooks that comes pre-loaded with Ubuntu 12.04 (http://bartongeorge.net/2012/07/18/project-sputnik-to-go-from-pilot-to-product/). Dell first started offering computers with Linux installed in 2007 (http://linux.slashdot.org/story/07/05/22/0142255/dell-linux-details), but they dropped the products in 2010 (http://linux.slashdot.org/story/10/07/24/0241204/dell-drops-ubuntu-pcs-from-its-website). This spring, a skunkworks effort called Project Sputnik was announced, and now, after the completion of a short beta test, the Ubuntu laptops have been given a green light for commercial sale. Canonical has been working alongside Dell to help make this happen."
