But the OS still dominates the market with a huge 56 per cent.
Last week, Strategy Analytics said the global smartphone shipment growth had slowed to 32 per cent in Q2 (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/smartphone-shipment-growth-slows-to-32-per-cent-in-q2/018797), the weakest rate since Q3 2009.
Now, it reveals that the biggest OS in the space, Android, is also decelerating – at least in the US.
Overall US smartphone market growth slowed by five per cent, resulting in Android's Q2 shipments slipping by four per cent year-on-year.
That said, the OS still has a 56 per cent market share, and accounted for 13.4m of the total 23.8m devices moved in the quarter.
Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, said: "Android remains the number one platform by volume in the US, but its market share is approaching a peak and Apple iOS has been gaining ground.
