that is a nice machine for the cash, pity it's not dual core though...it makes an amazing difference to performance.

Other than the processor being somewhat outdated, the only other thing I could see that might be a problem is that the HDD is only 80GB, and since it's a Media Center PC, you won't be able to record that many shows with 80GB. Good deal if you can't wait for an even better deal though.

Meh, i have a giftcard, ill use that to buy an external harddrive. Iv never used a media center computer, windows OS, whats it like? is it any good? what can you do with it?

Or instead of buying an external hdd, you could always buy a larger internal hdd and install that into your laptop. O_o That should work just fine, and would probably be a more logical/easier solution.

First of all, you get the Media Center theme, which rocks. Media Center can let you watch videos, view pictures, and listen to music with the remote that should come with the PC. If you have a tuner card, like I do, you can even program Media Center to record all of your favorite series or individual shows. Or you can just watch TV on your PC without recording it. Of course, Media Center automatically records it to your HDD temporarily in case you miss something and want to rewind live TV. All in all, I love it and it's great. :)

Oh yeah, and you can also stream all the multimedia to Media Center Extender devices, such as the XBox 360.

if your in college, you'll want to check if you need a domain network system... if you do, you will need WindowsXP Profesional.. Mediacenter is nothing more then home, with some extra crap to waste your video and system memory...

personaly, I wouldnt buy it, it's not the best computer I could think of... try looking for an Acer.. like this one
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0246155

much better stuff for the money...

and at the same time, you cant get much worse then the Intel integrated video card...

if you already bought it, disregard this post, but you should try to look for somthing better methinks...

Dude dont just go buying something because you think its cheap. look at this notebook (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=341306&pfp=hpf1) and they have cheaper ones that are still more powerfull then the one you mention.
