DIGG THIS (http://digg.com/software/3_03OE_A_Released_by_Dark_AleX_Supports_PS1_Game_C ompression)

Dark ALex has released a new version of his excellent Custom Firmware for the PSP, that supports both PS1 Game Compression for the Full SPeed PSX Emulator and also supports the very latest Firmware :), heres the Info

This is custom firmware 3.03 Open Edition Revision A.

The installation is very similar to the one of 3.02 OE-A.

Copy oeupdatemaker and oeupdatemaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in firmware 1.50, or to
/PSP/GAME150 if you are in 2.71 SE or 3.02 OE.

Get the 1.50 and 3.03 sony updates, and put them in the oeupdatemaker folder with the names
150.PBP and 303.PBP.

Run oeupdatemaker. It will generate the dxar file DATA.DXAR, whhich has the following hashes:

MD5: 03186D46D2F1B0ACD923098BEBC87281
SHA1: 3C80833A970EEA16A94D74DAFF6220889A9CEE4A

Copy 303oeflasher and 303oeflasher% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to
/PSP/GAME150 if you are in 2.71 SE or 3.02 OE.

Move the DATA.DXAR file to the 303oeflasher.

Run the program. When it finishes, it will ask you to reinit the psp. When you do that, you will be
in 3.03 OE-A.

Changes from 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-A

- Change from firmware 3.02 to 3.03
- Added support for compression in psx isos (look at popstation documentation for more details).
- Added support for decrypted document.dat (psx games manual) (look at docmaker documentation for more details).
- Fixed a bug regarding free region: a stupid bug caused it not to work at all.
Now it should work, although it has not been tested due to lack of umd's of different regions
between the testers and me.
- Some generic bug fixes in the code.
- Redded the sdk.

- Fixed some bugs that could cause the brick of korean/chinese/taiwan/singaporean psp when restoring default settings.
To prevent this, the region of those psp's are faked to japanese when fake region is disabled.
For same reason, korean region is removed from fake region.
- Added australia/new zealand and russia to the regions to be faked.

On FF7 you can't see a difference on the world map. Before going into the battle those weird colors are there, instead you just see cloud standing there, then the battle begins. Also, not sure if it's the compression but there's an annoying flicker in the status menu where you pick your attack.

I'm not really concerned about the compression yet. I was wondering about the location free tv being disabled. I have the location free base station & I use it a good bit on my psp. I'm currently at 3.02E-B and will go to 3.03E-A. I wish DA could drop some other option out besides the location free or give us the choice at installation. For now though what should I do if I want to use it? If I recover it goes back to 1.5. Then what? Can I safely upgrade to 2.71? Then the problem is having to go back down to 1.5 & back up to 3.02eA/B

This release is really awesome, especially because of compression support! Dark_AleX is such a great coder. I can probably fit some bigger games onto my 512 MB memory stick until my 2 GB arrives in the mail. :D

By the way, can you change the website to [url=http://dark-alex.org[/url] instead, as the lan.st site doesn't seem to be updated anymore.

There's no slowdown during gameplay. IF ANY, a *very small* (as in unnoticeable) difference in loading times.

Decompression is very fast, it's the compression itself, ie: the time you take to generate the eboot.pbp with the game, that takes (up to a lot) longer than normal.

Smething is acting screwy with this forum. There are like 6 pages of double, triple, quadruple posts.

Guys, you must name the UPDATE EBOOTs to 150 & 303.

Don't bother typing the .PBP at the end. It won't work that way.

150 & 303 = correct
150.PBP & 303.PBP = wrong

This was a fairly easy upgrade. I like how it checks and validates everything prior to flashing. Made me feel more confident and safe about the whole process.

I am going to hold out and hope for an update to the excellent PSX2PSP. Dark_AleX posted in Kingsquitters thread relating to his app and a new popcorn.prx so I don't think it will be too long.

I am going to hunt down every single one of my old PSX games and maybe go to EBGAMES or GAMESTOP to look for some cheap ones.

Damn, that is going to be a problem as FF VII is one of the first games I will likely be playing. Have you tried compressing at a lower level? Like 6 or 7 instead of 9? Perhaps that might help?

Is the "flicker" only present in compressed versions or is it the new 3.03 OE-A that might be causing the game to do that?

If you guys are using psx2psp like me you can just compress eboot first and once u made it open it up in psx2psp and modify it, but im sure theres an easier way but thats what ive been doiing lol

Do you guys know how to add the ICON0.png and PIC1.png in the command line?? Dax says you can in the readme but doesn't elaborate on where to add them.

BTW: FF9-D1 was shrunk to 484 MB from 706 MB using compression lvl 9. Just so you all know...

All you have to do is put those files wherever your popstation and the other files are at (ie: Base.pbp etc)

I've tried with compression 6 and got the same thing. And yeah, this flicker appeared only on this update of the firmware

On FF7 you can't see a difference on the world map. Before going into the battle those weird colors are there, instead you just see cloud standing there, then the battle begins. Also, not sure if it's the compression but there's an annoying flicker in the status menu where you pick your attack.

i got that neways from wen i was usin 3.02 OE-B so im used 2 it lol

iso compression is very easy! I don't understand why users are having such trouble with it? Just read the README and all will be made clear if you follow it 100%. I compreesed 2 iso's already and they run great!

Don't be afraid to follow directions and use the command prompt, its a very easy thing to do!

There's no slowdown during gameplay. IF ANY, a *very small* (as in unnoticeable) difference in loading times.

Decompression is very fast, it's the compression itself, ie: the time you take to generate the eboot.pbp with the game, that takes (up to a lot) longer than normal.

oh wow, so like just about no slowdown at top compression?

sok98

Has anyone tried converting the game using popstation 3.03 and trying to run it on 3.02OEB to see if the flicker remains. That way we can determine if its an issue related to the emulator or popstation. (I know DAX mentioned 3.03 converted iso's may not work but its worth a shot).

Re-extracted the game since I have the original ff7 NTSC, used several types of compression including none and the flicker exists. Kinda odd since I have 2 other games (Tactics, Chrono trigger) and those work perfectly at the max. compression. I guess it's the firmware causing this.

Yeah Road Rash 3D seems to constatly open up the pause menu every 2 seconds....

also FF7 seems to skip the swirl transition when entering a battle...

I get the FF7 Battle screen "flicker" but I don't think it will be too much of a problem seeing as how it saved a whole lot of memstick space and I think I can look past that. Also, note that future 3.03 OE firmwares may fix issues in compression that will fix errors like this.

I think that if you include the same game code, ie "SCUS10021" or whatever you named it, you may be able to access the same stuff, though that's just my guess, I haven't test it myself, though I plan too.

If anyone else knows say something.

You should be ok if beforehand you changed the Game ID from Hot Shots Golf 2 to Grand Turismo. Otherwise, the SLUS ID will not match the save you have and the game will fail to load. If this is the case, don't panic, when compressing the image type "Hot Shots Golf 2" SCUS94476 <your image file name.iso>

For future games you add, make sure you change the game id so not to overwrite your game save

To help with confusion, I added the game id to the title, EX

popstation "Final Fantasy VII - SCUS10002" <compression lvl> <image>

that way when you need to load up a second disk (if that's compatible yet), you can see the game id by pressing triangle in the XMB.

I have a couple questions that would be awesome if they were answered :D

First, when putting games onto the memory stick, do you HAVE to change the ID thing if you want more than one? Or can you leave them all as they are and just change the pics? I think my friend did that and the save files aren't getting messed up or anything. Please clear this up for me!

Second, how do you install the recovery stuff incase a brick occurs? Do you just put the recovery folders in the game150 folder (i'm on 3.02 oe-b at the moment) and then run them on the psp, then put the 150.pbp or something in the recovery folder? i'm confused about that...

1. If you dont change the ID# you only get 30 blocks of memory for all of your games. If you do change the ID# you get 30 blocks per game.

Yes, take the oeupdater and oeupdater% files, copy them to GAME. Take a 1.50 Update file and name it 150.PBP and a 3.03 Update file and rename it 303.PBP. Place them into oeupdater on your psp. Run oeupdater. Take the file that it creates, DATA.DXAR, and place it into 303flasher. Place 303flasher and 303flasher% into the GAME folder and run it. Welcome to 3.03 OE-A!:)

Anything this firmware can't run is either not needed or is not yet designed to run on this firmware (example: X-Flash) but soon these will all be usable. Just make sure that you create another folder on your PSP labeled GAME150 in the same place as GAME on your memory card an place it there. YOU MUST LEAVE THE "GAME" FOLDER THERE OR NOTHING WILL PLAY RIGHT!!! Oh, and there is a low risk of bricking your PSP if you follow the simple instructions I gave Zergling.

EDIT:You will need a copy of the Hot Shots Golf2 game that they are sending out via playstation store. Don't ask for it here though.

what are the new things that this can do besides play ps1 games?

does hot shots golf have to stay on the memory stick and take up space? Is the ps3 store the only place I can get it?

Zargon
January 5th, 2007, 04:54
It has all of the features of 3.03. Also, you need Hot Shots Golf 2 to use POPStation, the program that makes all of your games compatible with the PSP

Zargon
January 5th, 2007, 05:08
How did you manage that? This says you have to have Hot Shots Golf 2 (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/dcemu-official-guide-how-to-install-3-02-oe-a-then-to-oe-b-to-run-psone-games-47121.html)

Gizmo356

No, if you know where to get the modified BASE.PBP and the KEYS.BIN that came from Hot Shots Golf 2, then your should be good to go. However, you'll need to find it yourself and this is where Google is your friend ;)

Ok guys, i dont know why no one in this thread talked about the second MAJOR change in this FW from 3.02OOE-B which is the UMD REGION FREE FIX!!! Did anyone checked to see if that works.

By the way i've been using the PSX2PSP converter V0.7 by ZALBARD which includes the BASE & KEYS files. (this was posted on DCEMU but some saints removed it within minutes.... Luckily for me i DID got a copy before that ... hehehe.....). Now the question is: Is there a GUI that supports compression+3.03-A AND doesn't require you to have BASE.PBP & KEYS.BIN??

Right now I have 3.02 OE-B on my system the PS1 games all work fine on another system I have 3.03 OE-A and I can say one thing for sure somthing happening with compression or when you compress the PSX images don't forget guys and gals this is in it's infancy stage and this is the first attempt at the compression scheme. Also remember sony has been working on this for quite some time Dark Alex only had less then a month. What do you expect a little flicker and compatability issues are going to be a given. for now after extensive testing today of both systems I have removed 3.03 OE-A from my second PSP and went back to 3.02 OE-B for two simple reasons. 1) Compatability some games lock up in 3.03 and don't work correctly about 10% I have tried have severe issues FF VII being one of them the second was a game of scrabble that worked fine until I compressed it down. 2) Various lockups of the system viewing pics and running real disks or real UMD's had some issues. the ISO thing is fine but I want to buy my games for collectability purposes. This may be just my PSP but I dought it. I am now always looking before I leap 3.02 OE-B is leaps and bounds over anything we previously had access to 3.03 is still in the experamental stages and I will now wait and watch the problems unfold on the forums and I will wait until 3.03 or a future firmware release is more stable. In addition Sony may have inadvertantly goofed somthing up in this firmware that was just fine in 3.02. Thanks for all the work DAX Great Job for all your works!

My god. I just read through 24 pages of noobiness! I'm no pro when it comes to all of this but simply reading through the readme or finding a step by step guide online and it's easy to do all of this!

The It - you DO NOT need a PS3 to play PS1 games on your PSP thanks to Dark Alex and it would probably be easier if you did find Hot Shots Golf2 and use the original way for this rather than this supposed theory/method where you can play your PS1 games without Hot Shots. Google is your friend and with a bit of researching you can "cough downloadtotallylegally cough* the Eboot and Keys.bin for Hot Shots.

I'm still learning but have managed to install every app and upgrade etc successfully by simply reading the Readmes or finding online guides.

Now....i'm off to upgrade to 3.03oe....(here's where my PSP now bricks itself :P)

Ok i'll stay with 3.02oe-b until 3.03oe seems a bit more stable etc :P keep up the awesome work Dark Alex

You cannot play any homebrew software off your memory stick if you have the standard 3.02 firmware. You will need to wait until someone manages to make a downgrader or eLoader for your firmware version.

The only people who can upgrade to 3.02OE or 3.03OE are those people who are fortunate enough to have a PSP with firmware 1.5 or firmware 2.71SE (which itself is a custom firmware).

If you are not running firmware 1.5 or 2.71SE, you need to check to see if a downgrader is available (PSP's upto and including firmware 2.80 can, as a general principle, downgrade), anyone running a stadard Sony firmware > 2.80 cannot install the 3.03OE custom firmware.

This may change in the future, but as of the time of writing, you are stuck with what you've got.
