<a href="http://storm-studios.net/GPF/" target="_blank" >GPF (Troy Davis)</a> has tonight given me the honor of releasing the worlds first Game Boy Advance Emulator (also plays Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Mono games) for the Dreamcast Console.

The emulator is a port of Visual Boy Advance which was in turn ported to the GP32 by Chui and then Troy Davis ported the emulator to the Dreamcast Console.

The release comes in plain, and a rom image downloads and also the source code is available for anyone to carry this project onto greater heights.

heres some info from this release:

<blockquote>Colors for gbc are not right
you can only load 1 rom per session, locks up if you return to menu and try to start a second rom
Sound is not quite right either, clicks and sputters occasionally disable sound fixes that :)</blockquote>

Download the first GBA emulator for the Dreamcast from <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/gbaemu.shtml" target="_blank" >Here</a>. (Emulator is not on GPFs website)

Please give feedback on compatibility etc.

its a great release but the faster version wouldnt work tonight so we had to go with a 4 month old build, but at least it gives you something to whet your appettite

Holy crap. How did I miss this?

Very cool. I just hope that people appreciate it for what it does, and don't get all upset about everything it doesn't do.

EDIT - Wait a sec. I just realized that this was posted on April Fools Day. Is this a joke?

yep...There must be someone out there with the moxie, but ASM skills are highly sought after in the commercial sector, but you never know...!

I'm always thankful for something new to test and play (no matter how slow or buggy), I'm off to burn a CDR - many thanks GPF!.

It's very impressive that someone managed to get GBA to run on our beloved Dreamcasts. Thank you Troy!

Hi yall.

I got the emulator to burn and run. But only tried two games.

Final Fantasy Tatics GBA (not working)
and
Advance Wars 2 GBA (not working)

Maybe there is a Rom size limit?
I think I read about that in a post a long time ago. What would be the limit?

Thank GPF

the smaller the better! ;0

But seriously the dc has 16mb of ram so at the very least less than that, but it just depends how much ram the emu is useing... i would guess the size limit would be 12mb.... just a guess... i'm sure he has it posted somewhere

I have created a video (http://sbibuilder.dc-france.com/bordel/DangerousXmas.avi), where i'm playing Dangerous Xmas (http://www.deconstruction.f9.co.uk/rick/rickxmas.htm), a free game from Spoutnick Team (http://spoutnick.free.fr/).

It's very playable ;)

Cool Video :) Yeah DangerousXmas is pretty much the only thing I generally test.

What's the reason for choosing VBA ? I mean, use this emu myself, but is it the speed, compatibility, or other reasons for choosing to port this and not other GBA emulators? I'm just curious.

one of the only open source gba emulators that also happens to be running on lesser systems and happens to use SDL

Portability of the sourcecode and I am not aware of any other portable GBA emulators.

It seems to be portable and free. It was written by a french, Julien 'Gollum' Frelat.

Its portable, but according to what I can find on the website its not opensource and wouldnt be any better than VBA according to someones post about porting it to the Ngage.
