Contrary to previous reports (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/363882/playstation-cross-buy-initiative-is-eu-only-for-now/), Sony's recently announced PlayStation Cross Buy (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/363019/playstation-cross-buy-announced-buy-a-ps3-game-get-the-vita-version-free/) initiative will be available in North America.
http://cdn.medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/screenshot_282322_thumb_wide300.jpg (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=282322)"PS Vita-PS3 Cross Buy price promo is coming to both Europe and North America," Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said on Twitter (https://twitter.com/yosp/statuses/237383719147683840). "My quote by Famitsu was meant as 'not decided for Japan yet'," he explained.Announced during Sony's Gamescom conference (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/362996/live-blog/sony-gamescom-press-conference-live/) last week, PlayStation Cross Buy (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/363019/playstation-cross-buy-announced-buy-a-ps3-game-get-the-vita-version-free/) will allow players to buy a game on PS3 and download the Vita version free of charge.
Cross Buy kicks off later this year with Sony's PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/playstation-3/beat-em-up/12683/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale/), Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/playstation-3/action/12807/ratchet-clank-full-frontal-assault/) and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/playstation-vita/platformer/12705/sly-cooper-thieves-in-time/), but a top Sony executive has admitted that the service is hampered by the technological differences between PS3 and Vita.
PlayStation Europe CEO Jim Ryan said in a newly published interview with CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/363919/interviews/interview-playstation-europe-ceo-jim-ryan/): "PS Vita is a more PC-based environment whereas the PS3 is a more bespoke development environment. So the cross-over between both platforms is rather limited."
EA has said (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/363253/ps3vita-cross-buy-under-consideration-for-need-for-speed-most-wanted/) it's looking at the possibility of using Cross Buy for Need for Speed: Most Wanted (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/xbox-360/racing-driving/12671/need-for-speed-most-wanted/).
