The Wii U specs have surprised many developers, particularly Sonic developer Steve Lycett, as he discusses what it was like developing Sonic And All-Stars Racing for the Wii U.

When Lycett and the team first started work on the Wii U "the first surprise was the capability of the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit)." There were concerns that they would "need to re-engineer all the effects and shaders in the game, but they worked just fine."
The memory of the Wii U was also worthy of praise from Lycett, as he noted that "the Wii U looks as good as any of the HD platforms. The Wii U has way more memory, so we can take advantage of that with less compression on elements and textures, so it will look all lovely and shiny."
Sonic And All-Stars Racing isn't the only Wii U title shaping up to look just as good, if not better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Earlier this year, Randy Pitchford stated that the "Wii U version [of Aliens: Colonial Marines (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/341894/aliens-colonial-marines-wii-u-has-so-much-more-to-offer/)] has so much more to offer" than the PS3 and Xbox 360 titles.
Pitchford also praised the Wii U's controller (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/350854/wii-u-game-pad-is-nintendos-best-controller-says-gearbox-ceo/), claiming it to be "the best controller" Nintendo have ever made, and perfect for the games he likes to play, and make.
We also can't forget Ubisoft's ZombiU (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/nintendo-wii-u/action/12752/zombiu/) - which is shaping up to be a must buy with the console.
