Apple could be carving up a slice of contactless action.
NFC is thought to play a huge part in the future of mobile payments, with more operators (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/everything-everywhere-and-mastercard-join-forces/019161) and OEMs jumping into the space, perhapsmost noticeably demonstrated with Samsung's high-end Galaxy S III. Rival firm Apple is now thought to be eyeing a leap into the contactless market, as AppleInsider (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/08/27/rumor_nfc_chip_spotted_in_photos_of_purported_next _gen_iphone_front_assembly.html) reports an iPhone 5 casing that appears to have an NFC chip inside.
The Cupertino giant revealed Passbook in June, (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/is-passbook-a-trojan-horse-for-pay-by-itunes/018288) an iOS 6 m-commerce hub that will aggregate all daily deals and payment services in one place, but no direct NFC comment has been made.
Similarly, no official talk of an iPhone 5 has been offered, but the device is thought to be unveiled on September 12th. (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/another-clear-sign-that-iphone-5-will-land-on-september-21/019109)
