The Tokyo District Court has today ruled that Samsung did not infringe on patents held by Apple.
It follows last week's decision by a US court that the South Korean firm had in fact infringed on a number of Apple's patents and was ordered to pay more than $1bn in damages.
Samsung was found to have infringed Apple's patents for its mobile devices including both the iPhone and iPad.
Tokyo District Judge Tamotsu Shoji dismissed the case, which was filed by Apple back in August, after it found Samsung did not violate the rival firm's registered patents.
The patent itself related to the transfer of data and synchronisation of music and video between devices and servers.
Samsung told the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19433019) in a statement: "We welcome the court's decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple's intellectual property."
The firm has stated it plans to continue its court battle against Apple and will appeal against the US ruling.
