Make sure you use soap and water after sending a text.
People have been known to use their phones while scoffing food, sitting on the pan (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/75-per-cent-of-americans-use-mobile-phone-in-the-loo/016867), and even during adult (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/adult/read/four-per-cent-of-iphone-owners-have-used-the-device-during-sex/018359) stuff, so it's likely a few foreign substances will be coating users' devices.
That said, it's still pretty shocking that Arizona University researchers (via Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2196365/Mobile-phones-germs-toilet-seat.html?ito=feeds-newsxml)) have found the average mobile phone has more bacteria than that of a toilet.
Some cases even yielded the disgusting results that there's ten times as much bacteria than the location people use to clear out their bowels.
The reasons behind the spread is the way users share their devices – clearly people have hugely varying hygiene levels – and the fact most people will never clean the devices which creates a layer cake of grime.
The phone-based bugs can cause nausea and stomach issues, but users are reluctant to ply electronics with cleaning products.
