For all the hype, more people are using Extarverts et all than iPhones.
It's easy to get carried away with all things iOS and assume that Apple dominates the device space in its home country.
This may be the case in terms of mindshare, but the shipment figures say otherwise. Especially when feature phones are taken into account.
comScore's July MobiLens survey of more than 30,000 US mobile subscribers reminds us that millions of phone users are either sticking with legacy handsets or buying cheap new ones.
It reports that Samsung has the most users with 25.6 per cent, followed by LG with an 18.4 per cent share. Both are ahead of Apple on 16.3 per cent.
Of course, subscribers are moving to smartphones with every month that passes. comScore says more than 114 million people owned smartphones as of July – that's up seven per cent on April.
Android ranked top with a 52.2 per cent market share (up 1.4 per cent), while Apple’s share increased two per cent to 33.4 per cent.
They gained at the expense of RIM, Microsoft and Symbian.
In terms of what they're using these devices for, 75.6 per cent used text messaging while apps were used by 52.6 per cent of subscribers (up 2.4 percentage points).
Browsers were used by 51.2 per cent and accessing of social networking sites or blogs increased 1.9 percentage points to 37.9 per cent of mobile subscribers.
