Looks to HTML5 to move away from its dependence on Google OS.
Chinese vendor ZTE has done well with its Android-powered devices and ranks as the second largest OEM in the country.
It has high aspirations and boasts grand plans of hiring thousands of new staff members (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/zte-refutes-claims-that-it-plans-to-lay-off-12-000-staff/018686) and reaching 100m smartphone shipments by 2015 (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/zte-aims-to-ship-100m-smartphones-a-year-by-2015/017811), but Android will not be the key.
ZTE has aligned with Firefox creator Mozilla for its forthcomingHTML5-based OS (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/support-grows-for-firefox-mobile-os/018480) which will power a number of future devices, according to Bloomberg. He Shiyou, exec VP, ZTE, said: "We will not rely on only one operating system."
He says the OS will be available in the December quarter and the decision comes to lessen its ties to the crowded Android market, a decision Nokia made with Windows Phone, a platform also used by ZTE
