It'll be compatible with every iPhone since the 3GS (http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/17/apple-gives-iphone-3gs-owners-some-love-with-ios6-features/), iPod touch 4G / 5G and this-and-last-year's vintage (http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/09/ipad-2-review/) of the iPad (http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/16/apple-ipad-review-2012/). Given the inexorable march of technology, some of the newer (http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/siri-ipad) features (http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/apple-officially-gives-google-maps-the-boot-launches-own-maps-a/) won't work on the older devices, but you can use ourcompatability checker (http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/ios-6-review/#compatibility) to determine what new things you'll be able to do in the next few hours.
We've had notes from our tipsters that the update is arriving a few minutes early (with photographic proof above), but so far we've had nothing here.
