Sales of video games leapt up 125 per cent last week on the back of three blockbuster releases.
In total £16.6m was taken at games stores for the week ending September 22nd, which is up almost £10m over the seven days previously. 586,077 games were sold in total, an increase of 70 per cent.
F1 2012, PES 2013 and Borderlands 2 were responsible for the surge in sales. The latter game was the clear No.1 and is the biggest selling game of the year so far.
“Borderlands 2’s success is a testament to Gearbox’s talent as a developer and to everyone at 2K who has brought this game to market,”said Take-Two Europe general manager Neil Ralley.
“It’s also wonderful to see so many gamers embracing a game that defies convention and challenges them to see beyond the average grey shooter. People who have bought it will be playing it for many, many hours.”
The market will almost certainly grow again when this week’s sales data comes in, which will include the launch sales of FIFA 13 and the new World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria.
