Holy Crap! Quzar made a new release!!!!

So yea, I've been working on this for a few months now off and on, have made a couple of changes I feel are important, and so ... yea a new release was had by all.

Here are the changes, straight from the new part of the readme (from frontpage you won't see anything, click comment to read it):

alpha4 (01/18/07):
*after more of eke-eke's changes, the sound stuff now works properly.

alpha3 (01/17/06):
*Slightly newer fame
*put in the code for eke-eke's changes to the sound driver to fix FM sound in some games. Doesn't work properly so it is defined out.

alpha2 (10/26/06):
*Uses DMA for texture transfer, but only partially. Should speed up texture transfer by ~2x
*Uses SQs in more places that affect speed more.

alpha1 (10/22/06):
*Faster assembly twiddling function
*Uses store queues when possible for speedups
*New FAME core from fox68k
*Multilingual Menu - automatically set by the DC's BIOS settings
*Re-Added FPS showing option
*Modified the romlist system, so that it can now read files with spaces in their names (use an | to seperate filename from real name)
*Small speedups in many places

TODO:

*Add switch for mameZ80 and Cz80
*use DMA for sound
*Make menu able to list roms without romlist

For reference, this was built off the july release of gpdc by BlackAura, and includes all files except roms that you need to use it (and more!).

The download is HERE (http://www.screamcast.net/publicdownloads/gpdcq-012007.zip). It includes all files needed, including the source code.

A note to those looking at the source: every change I made is marked somehow (usually by a comment including my name or a similar define).

If you repost this news elsewhere, please do NOT use your own download link. I'd much rather have all downloads go through this original file (I want to be able to track the number of downloads).

Enjoy folks!

I think you have to scramble the bin file first.
I used a program called File Checker v1.3. Found it on DC help.
To boot I used Dc Hacker and burned a multisession disc (don't need to waste cd's).
It worked.

I was expecting Quzar to include this with his release, but it seems he didn't. So, I'm posting it here.
Reading the helpfile is highly reccommended for those who haven't used the program before.
And uh, The old one isn't exactly compatible with Quzar's release.

EDIT: Nevermind, was looking at the wrong download. >.> It is in there.

EDIT2: Aaaand I just found the obligatory new version bug. Gotta install Visual Studio now... Quzar, you tested it! >.<

EDIT3: It seems that my father decided to do something with all my Installation CDs right before leaving on a 10-day business trip. I'll call him tomorrow. Until then, I'm freaking pissed that I can't do anything about it.

Does it saves properly to VMU?
Does it has the annoying region locks?
Does Sonic 2 shows water fine?

Thak you Quzar.

The sound is really buggy :( , it's like the sound plays too acelerated.

Yeah, but only on a very few games. (Technosoft, Disney/Sega). World of Illusion runs perfectly though.

I've tried a lot of games (Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2, Alien Storm, Mega Turrican, etc) and all of them has the sound buggy. I think it's a general problem :(

I've tested yesterday's private beta with quite a lot of games and they ran great.

I've tested Golden Axe 2 & 3, Super Shinobi II, Shinobi III, Bare Knuckle III, Streets of Rage I & II, World of Illusion, MonsterWorld IV, Street Fighter II CE, Sonic 2, Rocket Knight Adventures, and many more.

They all ran perfect.

Are you sure you aren't used to European 50Hz games (as they're like 20% slower) ? This emu rans them at full 60Hz. If you want 50Hz, then select 'EUR' at the region select ('Mode') in GenesisPlusDC.

...wait, you're right. I just tested a bunch of other games and all had sound playing too fast:

Chiki Chiki Boys, Castle of Illusion, Alisia Dragoon, Columns. Contra and Rocket Knight Adventures had no sound at all!

I guess it's because of what eke-eke wrote: You couldn't use his sound fixes with 12khz, as it would only work with 22 and up.

Hopefully Quzar reads this!

More games with these problems:

- Sagaia & Darius II: no sound at all
- Deadly Moves: no sound in game
- Double Dragon: sound too fast
- Gaiares: no sound at all
- World Heroes: sound's way too fast

...there seem to be a lot of games broken, literally all I've not tested >_<

Edit - Posted about it here: http://dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=938482#938482

Don't congratulate too quickly, we got a serious problem with the sound playback here that wasn't in BlackAura's previous build. I should have noticed it, as I was the one who tested it this morning. >_<

This binary is IDENTICAL to the one I posted in staff as alpha4, in case there was any question. I wanted to get this out because I feared that I would never release it, that and because I was told it only improved games -_-.

I'll end up fixing the sound, but until then you now have sound in many games that previously did not.

I know it's identical. I just happend to test exactly those game which ran perfectly while the majority of the games I didn't test indeed suffers from the mentioned sound problems.

I am very sorry that I didn't notice that when testing the build.

I've a doubt. Is this emu exactly the same that the gwpt version of GenesisPlusDC or are they two separated lines of the same emu?

The last version of GWPT I tried didn't have this problem with sound. Althought it wasn't very acurate all games had correct sound.

Good luck with the emu.

This is basicly a continuation of GPWT by BlackAura and Warmtoe. There have been lots of internal changes, the most noticable ones the ability to have spaces in the ROM List and the updated FAME core. Any comments on compatibility with the new FAME core will help Fox68k improving it.
