So suggests a message that is now displayed when players try to run the SingStar Viewer app on PS3, which declares itself 'discontinued'.The full message (via Shack (http://www.shacknews.com/article/76195/singstar-becoming-a-free-download-soon)) reads, "Support for the SingStar Viewer has been discontinued. The complete SingStar experience will be available as a free download very soon!"
In reply to fan queries, a post on the official SingStar Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/SingStarHQ/status/256689895685386241) teases an announcement likely next week.
The SingStar Viewer was a free tool which allowed users to browse and purchase SingStar songs and view community videos uploaded by SingStar players. To play purchased songs, however, you need to own a copy of SingStar on disc.
It makes sense that Sony would remove the initial barrier to entry, and simply offer the SingStar game as a free download with a couple of appetiser tunes, and let users purchase more songs to their liking.
