Tech developer PowerA recently unveiled the MOGA Mobile Gaming System, which allows users of Android smartphones and tablets to transform their device into something of a games console.
The pocket-sized MOGA controller connects to mobiles via Bluetooth, enabling gamers to play using analogue sticks and shoulder/action buttons – similar to a PlayStation or Xbox control pad.
Developers are able to use the MOGA SDK to produce compatible games, while consumers can download around 45 titles from the MOGA Pivot app which is free on Google Play.
It's a further cry to support opinions that mobiles will kill off console games, as the MOGA can now be found on sale for $49.99 in 7,000 US stores including Best Buy, Walmart, Toys R Us, Gamestop and more.
Eric Bensussen, president of PowerA, said: "MOGA has really captured the imagination of the development community and consumers. We are ecstatic that mobile gamers can finally get their hands on MOGA today.
"With huge support at retail that is far beyond what we could have possibly imagined, and a strong in-store demo program, gamers will now be able to experience the right way to game on their mobile devices."
Gameloft, Atari, Namco Bandai and SEGA are among publishers developing MOGA-enabled games.
