With the recent release of Popstation everyone is trying to squeeze the best out of their Memory Cards, heres the options available to you

1) 4GB Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo

http://image4.play-asia.com/170/PA.62432.001.jpg (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_SanDisk_Memory_Stick_Pro_Duo_4GB_w__Adapt or.html?aff_id=24)

4GB Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_SanDisk_Memory_Stick_Pro_Duo_4GB_w__Adapt or.html?aff_id=24), Retailing at $116 and is the easiest option to have big files on your PSP, but is it the cheapest.

2) SD Card Adapter / 4GB SD Card Combo

http://image4.play-asia.com/170/PA.75135.001.jpg (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-jd-49-en-84-j-70-1lz3.html)]http://image4.play-asia.com/170/PA.73656.001.jpg (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-d1-49-en-84-j-70-1ku0.html)

Play Asia sell both the SD Card Adapter (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-jd-49-en-84-j-70-1lz3.html) and 4GB SD Memory Card (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-d1-49-en-84-j-70-1ku0.html), the price for both works out to be $125 but at least you can use the SD Card on other systems.

3) 4GB Hard Drive

http://image4.play-asia.com/170/PA.59039.001.jpg (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_4GB_Hard_Drive___X2_Battery_Pack.html?aff _id=24)

Datels 4GB Hard Drive (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_4GB_Hard_Drive___X2_Battery_Pack.html?aff _id=24) is the cheapest weighing in at $108 but also sticks out the most on the back. You also get a Double Strength Battery.

4) PSP Bank with 40GB Hard Drive

http://www.superufo.com/item_photo/item/PSP-4hdd-L.jpg (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_PSP_Bank_with_40GB_HDD.html?aff_id=24)

This option works with the other options and not really on its own, the idea is a great one, 40 GBs of space (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/SONY_PSP_PSP_Bank_with_40GB_HDD.html?aff_id=24) but the 3 above are the best in my opinion

So there you go 3 good options and one curious option, What option interests you the most ?

ohh wait forget the sd card adapter guys it has a 2gb limit per card and it only reads one card at a time so forget that just go with option #1. Newegg got the ultra II 4 gig cards for $100 and the regular 4 gig card for $87.

I got a 4gig Sandisk on special for 69 bucks from buy.com when they ran a special with Google about a month ago. Works great and I feel its the best option for portability.

On a side note how come no one has come up with a custom case that allows you to have something like the SD card adapter built in?

4gb stick is the best hands down.

The 40gb hard-drive thing would be awesome, if it had USBHostFS capabilities...

What about using that 40GB drive thingie along with IRshell?....does that work?

Hey there, gr42178.

I think the difference between those two cards is transfer and reading speed....I think.

Nah because the device with which the HD is connected to needs to be able to run USBHostFS server.

The only real viable solution is a Micro PC from Norhtec, with Linux and a 2.5" hard-drive capability. The reason its the only viable solution is because its so small.

Hell why didn't I think of that earlier lol

4GB Ultra II memory stick is the best way to go.

SanDisk, please design an 8GB variant of your Ultra II, Extreme III, or RapidGX product line.

When's the 8 gig duo coming out? It'll probably be worth about another PSP but nonetheless it is what I want cus I hate having to transfer my files back and forth over from my computer. I also don't enjoy carrying around multiple cards cus I've already lost my 512.

so isnt a neo 8 in 1 pad a better choice they come with
a 4gb mini hard drive allows you to combine different flash cards with it.
so you can combine that old sd card with your 32mb or bigger memory stick and that 4gb http://pspupdates.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/19506/zz-psp-neopad.jpghard drive.

i went with a friend to get a memory stick today and we was lookin at the 2 gig sony pro duos and it said 2 gig on the package but on the memory stick itself said one gig. i got a kick out of it lol. I just recently got a 1 gig, its all i had the money for, for the time being. I just seen on QJ.net that fry.com has 4 gig san disk ultra II memory sticks for 70 bucks and it come with free shipping, wish i had waitd a little bit longer lmao

how does this work? do you use all the memory at once or do you have to switch between them and how much it is it looks kinda sweet lol

You can put 2 cards in at once actually, you just have to put tehm both in together and format it. i cant remember if it supports 2x2gb sd cards at once, but i seem to remember something about it doing so as long as you are not on 1.5.

i own 2x2gb sandisk duo sticks, the datel drive, and an sd card adapter with a few different sd cards. My opinion is that most of the time i just end up using my duo cards, its a lot easier not to have stuff sticking out of the back, especially when you have the psp in your pocket or in a playgear pocket (you cant use the x2 battery, the datel drive, or the dual memory expander in a playgear ocket and its a bit of a bitch getting it into the neoprene case with tehm on too (but not impossible).
for long journeys however the sd card thing is fantastic - with 2gig sd cards costing 10 quid from amazon you have tonnes of storage for really cheap, and it doesnt matter about how it fits into your pocket. It feels a bit flimsy stuck on the back, unlike the datel thing which fit well (but broke soon after i got it). I use the x2 battery almost exclusively (apart from when its in teh playear pocket), to anyone who complains that stuff out of teh abck gets in teh way i have to disagree - they act like a handle and make it much easier to hold.

so in conclusion - you want the drive for your pocket playing mp3s, or care about what it looks like - fork out the extra on the memory stick duo

you want it for playing games on a long treck and dont care as much about its appearance, or you happen to have lots of sd cards - get the sd card reader

http://www.norhtec.com/products/mcjr/index.html

The first option which has space for an internal 2.5" drive. Get that, a 100gb 2.5" drive, get the WiFi addon and have Windows preinstalled from the factory.

Using WiFiHostfs, get the directories setup on there, send your music and movies over and use irShell to access it.

Use wifi encryption because essentially, you'd become a walking access point. (Or use USBHostFS and use a USB cable.)

Only problem with it, is that you'd need a battery pack for it, if one can be found, to make it portable and it would need to be fully charged before any long treks. If the windows put on it supports hibernation, then you could easily turn it off, and turn it back and be right where you left off (no need for a screen).

Keep this in your backpack or cargo pocket while your PSP resides in your other pocket. Its a done deal :) (of course its a little bulky, being like carrying another PSP with you, but it gets the job done and has massive storage capabilities.)

I've been wishing I could do this ever since I've gotten my psp. Never use the UMD, but and extra 20-60 gigs that go along with a hard drive would be ridiculously sweet. The question is, how can the psp interface with the hard drive? It would be sweet to basically rip out the UMD drive, and stick what's equivalent to the Ipods internal hard drive into the psp.

lets see now...the double expand is quite frankly rubbish - it suffered severely from corruption - so much so i lost a 50% complete gta save which wasnt backed up - i also lost many games although those were replaceable (homebrew ones). i lost movies as well. all in all it would be my last choice.
the datel device has reportedly had problems with some programs or videos (not sure really just know its had issues). i cant say if the neo adaptor is any better but its much more expensive than the datel one so maybe it is better than it. if the neo one is as bad as the datel then thats why i would make this my third choice.
the data bank is useless in itself without having a decent size memory stick as well. this would be my second choice.
so in conclusion - the only real choice is a genuine memory stick or one of the half decent fakes (i got quite lucky with mines).

Agreed,my wife got me one as a birthday present, and it SUCKED! Load times are crappy, there's audio lag on even the smallest video file and to top it all of,the thing crapped out after six days!
All in all,a waste of money, considering that a 4G card is cheaper, faster and practically unbreakable.
Stick with sticks,yo!

I'm surprised you didn't mention removable HDD/memory card reader combos.

I've got an X-Drive Pro, all I do is stick the memory stick in the reader side, use the UI to delete whatever I don't want or copy it back to the HDD, then I copy the new stuff from the HDD to the PSP MS.

No PC needed, and I picked the X-Drive up for $150 Australian dollars on eBay a while ago ($117 US dollars, 60 British pounds) including postage.

The X-Drive itself can play MP3s and can be connected to a PC to serve as a memory card reader. Its got a rechargeable power pack too, so its just as portable as the PSP. Great for holiday trips.

Anyway, just thought you should know :)

The Hitch USB transfer device is going with me on vacation next week. I plan to use it to transfer the photos I take to the PSP or a spare 2 Gig USB drive.

The Hitch has a port on the left and right sides for any USB device and a LCD screen for easy use. I've used it to move data to the PSP and a USB drive also to move data between USB drives.

It would be nice if it had some kind of built in drive of its own (8 Gig or so) but its only a smart "traffic cop" so to speak.

Costs about $100 at Best Buy or etc.

Worth a look!

The purple ones are meant for gaming, and they aren't anywhere as good as the black (Ultra, Ultra II or Extreme III) but the black ones are meant for professional photographing. But of course they also work on the PSP.

What about:

Sans Digital MS1U 2.5" External Hard Disk Enclosure with 9-in-1 Card Reader/Writer
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2719705&CatId=1203

2.5" hard drive enclosure = 160GB+ potential storage - check
1200mAh LiIon battery for portable applications - check
MS-Pro reader/writer - check

Any reason why this wouldn't be a good PSP storage solution for mobile applications, combined with a decently-sized MS?

LAMPRO

if you need to lug around that external device, its not so portable anymore.

8gb. period.

lachek
November 29th, 2007, 22:05
Hm. Well, for anyone who's looking for hard drive-sized storage, you'd kind of have to expect a hard drive-sized device. We're talking about 3"Wx5"Dx1"H here - about half the size of a PSP. Not exactly a brick, and since you'd only use it to copy data back and forth you wouldn't need to have it out while you use the PSP either.

For the same cash it costs to buy an 8GB MS, you can buy a battery-powered enclosure with an 80GB hard drive. Obviously it's not going to be for everyone, because not everyone needs such storage, but if you're taking a bunch of movies with you on vacation or something it seems like a decent enough option.

LAMPRO
November 30th, 2007, 02:04

stop beyotchin get the 8gb and load it up, if you cant shrink your mp4's or cso's as much as possible to fit hours and hours worth of prime reality distraction, man there is something defintily sociopathically wrong.
