(discovered by vision - idea improved by zion :p)

Guide created by Zion

This is how to change your background to a more cool and colorfull one like the included pic attached below, + keep the cool wavy lines too :D

Right then.

First download the attached pspfilerv2.4.
Create a image in .bmp format with the size being 60x34 and has to be named "01-12.bmp" without the ".

Next go to theme settings on your psp, then to theme, and change it to original.
It wont work unless its set to original

next, put the 01-12.bmp image you made in the root of your memory stick.

start psp filer, once its started press L+R+D-Pad-Left

now navigate to your 01-12.bmp file and press square then x. press circle now to copy it into the ramdisk.

once done press circle again.

press start twice (should say file:[flash0:/]) at the top now.

go to vsh/ and press circle. now go to resource and press circle. now then, press cross/x then press triangle, press circle to confirm overwriting the previous bmp file.

and your done :D

press select + Start to quit to the xmb and enjoy your new background :D

for 3.03oe users just start up recovery mode, click advanced then toggle usb(flash0).

and in windows navigate (your psp directory) to vsh/resource then just paste/replace the current 01-12.bmp file with your new one.

i have included the default image just in case you make a mess of it or dont like it.

Tested on 3.03oec :D[/U][/B]

enjoy

Same method with a few changes works for custom gameboots too on 3.03oec :D ive just done mine now using the same method but with a gameboot.pmf file. Its in the same directory as the background image, so you should be able to work out how to do it

I made this guide to help others but take no responsibilty if your psp bricks as a result.

Zion.. i give credit to you, but i think that you should give credit to my buddy Vision, who has tried to get people to notice this. look: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=48577&highlight=custom+themes

also we dont need filer anymore since we can see flash 0 in usb mode using recovery. lol

i am going to check out your themes now, i love seeing new backgrounds. i never liked sony's originals

Thanks zion, i did not think of putting a background instead of simple colors, also do you aim i can give you a merger it will merge 01.bmp 02.bmp ... all together in to a 01-12.bmp so you can actually have more than one background

Also thanks XG for bringing that up apreciated

Forget all this, although its a nice guide and everything, all you have to do is connect via the flash0 in recovery and edit the file there, I tried it with success! I also flashed some fonts and custom gameboot this way!

I like the new 01-12.bmp! =] It's gawpably good.

Also, thanks for giving me an excuse to gather up the courage to flash via recovery, flashed a blank gameboot.pmf while I was in there ^^

:D, i suggest using kandos gameboot path modifyer. it works on 3.03oec (i tested it)

that way there is no restriction of gameboot size, you can change it whenever you want without having to reflash your psp, and you save 200kb or more of flash space :D

eatnooM
January 27th, 2007, 13:48
I was gonna try that out a bit ago, but couldn't get the nodule folder out of decryption for the life of me.

Doesn't matter that much anyway, all I flash a new gameboot for is to get rid of the sound :)

hey zion you know about the bogus 1.0 sounds. I was wondering if you would happen to know how to modify it. I was wanting to replace the echo like sound you hear when scrolling the XMB with the normal click sound that the psp has now. On the 1.0 bogus sounds i like all the other sounds but that echo if you know anything about this let me know.

Theres a guide on QJ.net that shows you how to remove certain prx's and rcos that you dont use iv removed the camera and rss from mine since ill never use and if i do i can always use my 3.03 dump to replace them. thought sum one might be interested in it

With this no, you'd have to merge all 01.bmp 02.bmp.... into a 01-12.bmp

How do you merge 12 images into 01.12.bmp?
It's possible because Sony did it.

O Yeah mergin them is easy as pie ... makin them is a drag tho... i searched for hours for a complete 01-12.bmp set of PS3 backgrouds until i decided there wasnt anyone posting them so i decided to make them and post it... they go pretty well with the original colors... they fade from black to w/e color (for example Dec = fade top to bottom, black to red)

heres the link http://www.sendspace.com/file/8cm1pw
just download activate flash 0 on 3.03 oe-c and pop in overwriting the old one

Is there any way to use an image larger than 60x34? like the old PSPersonalize that used 300x170. I'd really like to use an image I made specificalsly for it, but it loses all detail at such a small size.

just one thing...

I'm trying to make the whole 01-12.bmp file. So far so good, I can manage, but:

1. I wrote a small prog to cut the 01-12.bmp into 12 BMPs, each of which comes to be 6176 bytes long. OK

2. I just edit 01.bmp, make it full BLACK and save it

3. I get a file which is 6174 bytes long!!! (I'm using MS Paint to do this...)

So when I merge them together all the BMPs after mine don't show up in the background selection, although I see mine perfectly if I chose it...

So my question is: where the hell are those 2 missing bytes??? In the header, anyway, I see a size specified, which is consisten in both the files, so basically I just need a program that saevs my BMP like it should be, 6176 bytes... How to?

TIA, A.

MrMojo
see
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47291

prog will take 1.bmp - 12.bmp (needs to be in ms:/bmp/)
pads out smaller than 6176 files and merges them. then (bit i dont like) write them to flash and deletes them from MS

Yeah, at the end I managed myself just to pad the image with the missing 2 bytes (they'll be 0 of course...) and replace the sizes in the header, bot bitmap raw size and file size; now it's all ok.

Thanks anyway.

Cheers, A.

make sure its .bmp format rather than just having a .bmp extension.

that would be the problem

January 29th, 2007, 00:22

I got it working ok, just when its all white, its in a different month. Just go to the theme settings and scroll up/down until your theme comes up and press x. Yours seems a blotchy, but still cool

what programa are you guys using to merge your 12 bmp images?

i wrote code to use.

open notepad > paste this

copy 01.bmp/b+02.bmp/b+03.bmp/b+04.bmp/b+05.bmp/b+06.bmp/b+07.bmp/b+08.bmp/b+09.bmp/b+10.bmp/b+11.bmp/b+12.bmp/b 01-12.bmp

then save as > change "save as type" to all files> then put whatever name in with the extension .bat . then just put it in the folder with the rest of the images and run it, it will create the file for you.
