3.03v downgrader & HEN for v3.03 Released - Newest PSP Firmware Downgradeable

On a EU PSP, can I upgrade to the 3.03 EU Firmware, then downgrade to the 1.50 EU Firmware ?

The ReadMe for the downgrader links to US downloads at QJ, I guess it wouldn't matter to use the EU versions but I'd like to be sure.

v3.03 Downgrader

After much work over the past few days, we finally succeeded - we have an easy-to-use downgrader for v3.03 PSPs!

Some ground-rules:

* This downgrader is for v3.03 firmware only. But if you have v2.81 - v3.02, no problem - you can just upgrade to v3.03 to use the downgrader.
* You need a copy of the unpatched GTA:Liberty City Stories UMD. No ISOs, no patched UMDs, not Vice City Stories. See here for some info on how to check if your version is patched. The most reliable way : the unpatched disks have the v2.0 firmware update on them.
* This downgrader is intended to enable homebrew. Homebrew is NOT the same as piracy. Don't be a thieving loser - buy the games you play.
* The downgrader will work on all current PSP hardware (TA-079 - TA-086). Patching of TA-082+ is automatic in the downgrader.
* You downgrade at your own risk. There is always a chance of bricking, although we have done everything we can think of to make this process safe.

Full instructions for downgrading are included in the Downgrader_HOWTO.txt file in the ZIP file. Read them carefully! You will need

Warning: After downgrading from 3.03 to 1.5, there are some remnants of 3.03 left in flash. If you later try to re-upgrade to 3.03 and repeat the downgrade, things will break. At some later point, we will work on a cleaner that will remove these extra files. Until then, enjoy! (Don't worry, upgrading to 3.03 OE firmwares still works fine).

HEN for v3.03 (final release)

If you're not keen on the risk of downgrading your PSP, you might prefer to use a homebrew loader instead. Well, we've thought of you - we give to you "HEN 303 - the Duff release" (named in the eLoader tradition!).

HEN 303 (short for Homebrew ENabler) works in the same way as Dark_AleX's HEN for 2.71 firmwares. By running HEN, it installs a patch in your PSP's memory, that allows you to run homebrew almost as if you had a v1.5 PSP. This patch remains in place until you fully turn off your PSP - it will survive the PSP being placed into sleep mode.

The requirements for HEN are the same as for the downgrader - you need the unpatched GTA:LCS, and a v3.03 firmware PSP.

You can view the readme.txt file in the archive for more details about how to use it. Remember that not as much homebrew works with HEN as it does with eLoader or v1.5 firmware. But we hope to release an eLoader plugin for HEN soon, that would improve that situation - and remember that the amount of homebrew that works with HEN is increasing all the time.

Note: a pre-release version of this file was leaked on the internet. It is dangerous and could brick your PSP - do not run it or distribute it. The authentic version contains the text "This is the official final released version of 3.03 HEN" in the readme.txt file.

Maybe it's a broken download? Sometimes when you download stuff from DCEmu, the file you download prematurely quits, rendering it corrupt as I have experienced it before. If that's so, try it again.

Ok i first want to thank all the ppl on here who help and respond to in need of help although there are some who really dont need it and they really do need to just follow the directions downgrading was easy but why is upgrading from 1.50 back to 3.03 oe-c so damn difficult im following the directions ive coppied 303 oeflasher and oeflasher% to the game folder and im putting the 303 and the 1.50 updates there as well and each time i go to execute the flasher it says it cannot open the file thats as far as i can seems easy but im 2 stupid 2 realize what im doin wrong does any1 have this problem or can see what im doing wrong

Ive just been to the one in leicester. They have over 50 copies of GTA:LCS in stock. And guess what...ALL UNPATCHED lol
Ive just brought 5 copies, reason for so many copies is have to send some over to frends in other countries that cant get them, Each and everyone i have brought is unpatched!!!
ONly £14 a copy as well!!!
I dont intend on playing it so once i have downgraded some frends at work psp's i dont mind sending it on to anyone who needs it and cant get to the shop CEX.

I have a succesful downgrade. And succesful upgrade to 3.03OE-C. It was incredibly easy. However with the upgrade to 3.03OE-C, it couldnt open the file to the 150.PBP...so I used Excruciation X's pack...and it automatically works. DosuKinuta, this is how to do it. If you are not already at 3.03, update first and then continue.

1 - Format you memory stick. If you have anything on it, you should back it all up to your computer beforehand.

2 - Download the 3.03 downgrader from the forst post of this thread.

3 - Extract the contents of the zip file. Copy the PSP folder inside MS_ROOT.

4 - Obtain the 1.50 updater from HERE.

5 - Extract the 1.50 updater to your desktop and rename it to UPDATE.PBP from EBOOT.PBP.

6 - On your memory stick, put the UPDATE.PBP in the PSP\GAME\UPDATE folder.

7 - Run an unpatched version of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. After it loads, the screen will go black and then blue. This is an indication that the HEN (Homebrew Enabler) has started. You will be returned to the XMB (the PSP's menu bar).

8 - Check your version number by going to Settings, System Settings and System Information. If it says 3.03 HEN, you can start the downdate.

9 - Go to Game and then Memory Stick. Run the PSP™ Update ver X.YZ. You will be asked if you wish to continue. You need at least 75% battery power for the downgrader to work.

YKB thanks for the help but I have all the steps down pack except for where to put the downgrader files at the only place I tested so far is the savedata area and when it comes to loading it just says corruted data and yes i'm working with an unpatched GTA
The main problem for me is where to extract the DG files to can you give a specific folder

When you extract the contents of the zipped package, find the PSP folder. Then copy that to the root of your memory stick. Windows will ask you to confirm that you want to replace the existing PSP folder on the memory stick with the one you are copying from that's on your computer so click yes. After the copying is done, all the files and folders from the copied PSP should appear on the memory stick.

Here this is what I did to mine:
1) I got the download from the actual noobs site not here
2) Place everything on your psp, you better off using a fresh formated 32 but i used an unfress 1gb with 400mb left
3) With the HEN folder in PSP, all three save files in your SAVEDATA folder and the UPDATE folder in GAMES witht he 1.5 eboot renamed to UPDATE
4) Load Grand Theft Auto: LIBERTY City Stories, It has to be an early version (with a 2.0 update on it). If you bought it yesterday fat chance, but if you got it near release date you should be good.
5) Load GTA and the screen will flash blue and turn off, if not try again. When I did this I had less then 75% battery =P, I would wait till 75% and plug it into the wall.
6) Turn on the psp and check the system softwear. It should say 3.03 HEN. If it does go to step 7 if not go back to 5
7) OK now enter your memory stick as if you going to run homebrew and scroll down to find Update X.yz or something like that (red icon) and run it.
8) Your now 1.5! Now you can stay 1.5 or upgrade to 3.03 oe C.

ok, heres the weird thing tha happened to me today.i had 3.03 OE-A,i upgraded it to OE-c,when i thyed to install the VSH Rebooter PRX vrsion 2,with installer,i gess i mesed up somewere,so,i et all depressed thinkin i have to go get another on,and pay the 20-30 bucks,so i start messin around with the flash 1 files,then i remembered that my friend sent me a copy of his 1.5 dump a while ago,so that gave me the idea,delete the ones i got,and copy/paste 1.5 in,and gess what,it worked,lol.

The only thing that had me worried for a minute, I had to rerun GTA LCS 3 times:

First time it went back to 3.03 XMB
Second it the PSP shut down
Third it worked! :D

I just used this method to upgrade a 3.2 to 3.3 and back down to 1.5. All went smooth until it rebooted into 1.5. It gave me the corrupted net config. When I hit X, the screen went black, but the sound remained. If I let the psp sit long enough, the screen shows back up, but disappears the moment I press a button. I think the internal command for swapping between power save and full brightness got corrupted somehow. Any thoughts?

benn, to determine if a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is unpatched, check the serial number on spine of the UMD case. It's also displayed on the game disk label. If it says ULES-00151# you have hit the jackpot. If it's ULES-00151#2, it's patched and it's no good for downgrading.

Xarius, maybe try restoring default system settings? Well, if you can be able do it despite the screen not act as it should be that is.

So let me get this right. I have the TA-082 motherboard... I see this downgrader works with the motherboard, but when I went threw and read the directions, it mentioned "patching" my motherboard. What does that mean? I'm sorry, I'm still learning.

Kinda late in the game but I can honestly say I successfully downgraded a friends psp 2.81>3.03>1.5>3,03oe-b with absolutely no problems. Excellent downgrader, makes the original 2.8 downgrader I had to use look like a leap of faith.

you then have to open the 1.5 update zip and rename the EBOOT.PBP to UPDATE.PBP then copy it to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/

then launch GTA:LCS.

you dont unzip it, usually( depends where you get it)
it will come in a zip file

Can the PSP be connected to the ps3 and the games on the psp run through the ps3(iso files) and hence play them through the ps3?

@np354 - i have now downgraded 9 psps (mostly for friends) using this method. 100% success rate. zero bricks.

@minor59er - i felt the same a while a go. you just got to keep looking. i found one in Computer Exchange (cex) for £12. i was tempted to put mine on ebay but worried if a friend needs theirs downgraded again or any of us get new ones.

Hoembrew applications do not work on official 3.11 firmware and cannot be downgraded to 1.50 as of now.

There are no dates I know of. You will have to wait for an annoucement for when a 3.10+ downgrader would be made, that not coming at anytime at the moment.

None, as they are homebrew applications. so you're out of luck on the draw. There is still the PS1 emulator to use if you have obtained any PSX games from the PlayStation Store though.

not in mp_root. The root of your memstick is where the MP_ROOT/ PSP/ etc. folders are.350dg/ should be in the same folder as PSP/ MP_ROOT/ PICTURE/ etc.

Anyone know if its ok (ie possible without a guaranteed brick) to reflash a custom firmware .. example reflash a 3.40 oe-a psp with the same 3.40 oe-a custom firmware? I ask as i am now having trouble booting my images since i played around with xmb :( lol............................ .. impatience is a virtue .. reflashed and all is well now :)

i am on 3.03 i was on 3.10OEA, went down to 1.5 then upgraded but i cant get past 3.03 how can i downgrade and make it so i can get the most recent official sony release? or a homebrew that is easy to use and update becuase i need to play spiderman 3 on the psp it wont work with old firmware and if i update it says:"The system configuration of this PSPtm system does not appear to be correct. Hi Everyone, if just got a second hand psp and i am going to borrow gta off a friend (unpatched) but i am confused. what is 3.03 O-EC? is it software to emulate 3.03 on 1.5 or is it a new firmware all together? what is the point in it? what does it do that 1.5 cant?
I have looked on the internet for answers but have found nothing. Can anyone help?
