The Wall Street journal (http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB10001424127887324556304578116392091283994-lMyQjAxMTAyMDEwMzExNDMyWj.html) has reported that Samsung is close to completing mobile devices with flexible OLED displays.
A source said the be close to the matter told WSJ that handsets are set to be released in the first half of 2013.
Samsung’s display unit is allegedly in the last phase of development of flexible OLEDs. They have been in the development phase for many years, and Sony and LG have already launched prototypes. So far, manufactures haven’t been able to commercialise them, but Samsung hopes to be the first to bring the product to market.
Using flexible plastic screens rather than glass could make mobile devices cheaper as well as lighter. If the rumours are to be believed, we could be seeing these devices very soon.
