We all knew that Nintendo has been leading the console scene over in Japan since the release of the Wii, but some sales figures provided by Enterbrain on the 6th reveal just how big the gap is. Over January, Nintendo sold approximately 405,000 Wii units, well beyond Sony's 148,000 PS3 units, the PS2's 111,000 units and the Xbox 360's 40,000 units.

In the race for next generation supremacy, this puts the Wii at 1,395,000 units, with the PS3 trailing at 614,000 units.

The Wii wasn't the number one system in January, though. That honor goes to the DS, which sold about 700,000 units. Nor was the PS3 the highest selling Sony system, as the PSP managed sales of 230,000 units over the month.

In software, the DS is still tops. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, released late last year, sold 400,000 units over the month, besting the mighty Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, which combined for 370,000 units. Wii Sports is still selling hot. The Wii launch title took third for the month with 350,000 units. It's widely expected that the game will become the Wii's first million seller some time next month.

Here's the full top 10 software chart for January, as provided by Enterbrain:

1. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (DS, Square Enix): 402,992
2. Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (DS, Pokemon): 370,832

They made a Brain Age 2? Awesome. Can't wait for a North American Release.

Nintendo is obviously dominating.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that by "Brain Age 2" they mean "Big Brain Academy".

A Brain Age 2 would be nice, though...

LOL why does this not surprise me?
Ya, know whats even sadder then the blatant absence of XBOX360™?
It's the obvious disappearance of S0NY's®™; Better then DVD, DVD-Palyer! (a.k.a Billy-Ray),... Umm Blue-Cheesy-Ray?! Aghh damn the PS3®™

Such as it is, and as anyone who's been 'round here long should know.

~IT'S THE GAME'S STUPID!!©~

Unfortunatly S0NY®™ in there infinite wisdom, still fail to get it!
And, in the end all One will get out of a PS3®™ is a shiny new ßeatmax².
Yep it's the Pants compared to VHS or HD-DVD.

BUT NOBODY CARES!!
WE BUY YOUR SYSTEMS (i.e. PSP™, PS3™), TO PLAY GAMES, AND NOT TO WATCH REALLY NICE MOVIES WITH!!!

LEARN THIS OR DIE S0NY®™!!

Hey don't knock Blu-Ray!

We needed a Hi-Def solution for movies at some point anyway. Its just a sign of the times. And Blu-Ray, in terms of potential for HD movies is superior if you ask me.

I know most people are content with DVD players and not everyone has an HDTV, but give it time. Eventually all TV's will be HD and most everyone will want a Blu-Ray player.

I will be getting a PS3 more for its Blu-Ray movie player initially. Eventually I'm sure the PS3 will see more and better games. The PS3 is too big of an investment to let it fail so soon.

Give the PS3 8 months or so and I'm sure we'll start seeing some incredible stuff for it.

But the studios putting out Blu-Ray movies better get on the ball and make the Blu-Ray version superior to the DVD package. As it stands now you get better value in buying a DVD with all of the special features, extended cuts, etc.
