Detailed new tech specs for Microsoft's next-generation Xbox, codenamed Durango', have emerged online in alleged leaks.
http://medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/screenshot_293660_thumb_wide300.jpg (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=293660)According to VGleaks (http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-durango-unveiled/), Durango will be powered by an 8-core CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz - widely tipped to be from AMD - and an 800-MHz graphics processor with 12 shader cores "providing a total of 768 threads", a capable of a peak raw processing performance of 1.2 teraflops (1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second). The console is said to be packing 8GB of DDR3 RAM - as previously hinted by developers (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/383271/crytek-ceo-drops-possible-hint-at-8gb-of-ram-in-next-gen-consoles/) - supplemented with 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM.
The disc drive is apparently a Blu-ray drive, capable of reading 50GB Blu-ray discs at x6 read speeds, and an internal hard drive of unspecified capacity.
The console will also reportedly come with "Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware" which we assume will work hand-in-hand with the next iteration of the Kinect motion sensor bar, also tipped to be included out the box.
An accompanying diagram of what's claimed to be a map of the Durango's internals (pictured) reveal more nuggets of information. It looks like the Kinect will get its own connection aside from the system's USB 3.0 jacks.
More interestingly, there's mention of a 'HDMI 1.4a in', which suggest that the Durango may be capable of receiving a video signal from another device -such as a cable/satellite TV box - with the possible ability to record.
Much of these specs back up the claims of Xbox World magazine (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/379069/xbox-720-xbw-uses-penultimate-issue-to-tell-you-everything-we-know/), which used its penultimate issue to publish an eight-page feature containing 'everything the mag knows' about Microsoft's next-gen console plans.
Here's the full reported specs list:
CPU:
- x64 Architecture
- 8 CPU cores running at 1.6 gigahertz (GHz)
- each CPU thread has its own 32 KB L1 instruction cache and 32 KB L1 data cache
- each module of four CPU cores has a 2 MB L2 cache resulting in a total of 4 MB of L2 cache
- each core has one fully independent hardware thread with no shared execution resources
- each hardware thread can issue two instructions per clock
GPU:
- custom D3D11.1 class 800-MHz graphics processor
- 12 shader cores providing a total of 768 threads
- each thread can perform one scalar multiplication and addition operation (MADD) per clock cycle
- at peak performance, the GPU can effectively issue 1.2 trillion floating-point operations per second
High-fidelity Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor is always present
Storage and Memory:
- 8 gigabyte (GB) of RAM DDR3 (68 GB/s)
- 32 MB of fast embedded SRAM (ESRAM) (102 GB/s)
- from the GPU's perspective the bandwidths of system memory and ESRAM are parallel providing combined peak bandwidth of 170 GB/sec.
- Hard drive is always present
- 50 GB 6x Blu-ray Disc drive
Networking:
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct
Hardware Accelerators:
- Move engines
- Image, video, and audio codecs
- Kinect multichannel echo cancellation (MEC) hardware
- Cryptography engines for encryption and decryption, and hashing
The most recent Xbox 720 release date reports suggest Microsoft is targeting a holiday 2013 release for its next-gen box.
