The Simpsons: Tapped Out game generated over $23m.
EA has released non-GAAP financials for its fiscal Q3 ending December 31st 2012, claiming it was the number one global iOS games publisher last year. Indeed, The Simpson: Tapped Out generated revenues of $23m, making it one of the highest grossing games on the Apple platform in the period.
Revenue for the studio's mobile games and services – including handheld consoles – hit $100m, an 18 per cent year-on-year increase.
Over the past year the firm has reiterated its focus on mobile and digital games, saying freemium will become 'the norm' (https://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/ea-to-make-freemium-games-the-norm/018275) and that 'mobile will push console gaming into a niche' (https://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/mobile-will-push-console-gaming-into-a-niche/019611). With that in mind, EA will likely be pleased that the Origin digital games portal now has more than 39m registered users, with 17m from mobile devices.
