And new app reached 1m downloads just seven weeks after launch.
The Beeb introduced BBC Sport to iOS on January 7th, and now reports that the former ME App Of The Day (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/app-of-the-day-video-bbc-sport/020251) has notched up one million UK downloads, with growth supported by a launch for Android last week.
Beyond the Olympics, the broadcaster says it experienced record web traffic of 42m unique visitors and more than one billion page views in January. Indeed, mobile is increasingly significant for the BBC as phones and tablets accounted for 43.4 per cent of traffic, up from 31 per cent in January 2012.
Phil Fearnley, general manager, BBC News and Knowledge, said: "It’s a huge achievement to reach this milestone so quickly, and is the icing on the cake for a large project to improve BBC Sport content on mobile devices. Since delivering record breaking coverage of the London 2012 Olympics across multiple platforms, we’ve launched a new, responsive, BBC Sport mobile website and apps for iPhone and Android.
"We’ve also migrated key features over to mobile, including live scores, stats and video, and will continue to improve how audiences use BBC Sport on-the-go."
