Ubisoft has issued a response to PETA after the animal rights group criticised the game maker for "glorifying" the hunting of whales in its upcoming sequelAssassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/xbox-360/action/13059/assassins-creed-4-black-flag/).http://cdn.medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/dir_2982/image_298234_thumb_wide300.jpg (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/viewer.php?mode=article&id=298234)PETA issued a complaint against Ubisoft (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/394318/assassins-creed-4-peta-labels-whale-harpooning-disgraceful/)
on Wednesday, labelling the harpooning of whales in-game as "disgraceful."An Ubisoft spokesperson responded to the claims with the following statement:"History is our playground in Assassin's Creed. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don't condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery."Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/393645/previews/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-preview-charting-new-waters/) was officially unveiled on Monday following several leaks last week.As we revealed in our Assassin's Creed 4 preview (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/393645/previews/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-preview-charting-new-waters/), the game is being developed Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind Far Cry 3 (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/playstation-3/fps/11720/far-cry-3/), a title which also lets players hunt numerous animals (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/380299/far-cry-3-video-man-vs-animals/).PETA has previously attacked Pokémon (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/372138/peta-vs-pokmon-animal-rights-group-launches-attack-on-black-and-white-2/) by likening the way Pokémon are treated to the abuse of animals, and made what it subsequently labelled a "tongue-in-cheek" call for attention byattacking Mario (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/326326/peta-tells-mario-fans-to-relax-it-was-a-joke/) for "sending the message that it's OK to wear fur".
