PAL is all of Europe. Usually it is released multi-lingually, as opposed to NTSC-U which is english and NTSC-J which is japanese.

but yes, the PAL version of shenmue has english.

Ha Ha silly noob... only joking, yeah most games that are PAL will have english text or an option for it at least, but youre right to ask as sometimes games released in Europe that are PAL only have their language, eg. i bought a game off eBay that said PAL turns out it was all in Italian :p

But to play a PAL game on your NTSC system you need to mod-it or use a swap-trick. Different region games only work on their assigned region console, ya see...

you really don't have to mod it, but its handy to mod cause you don't have to swap discs

but yes, the PAL version of shenmue has english.
Shenmue II is ONLY in english (yeah yeah, the PAL version).
The voices are Japanese (so nice!), and the subtitles are only in english, you can't have the choice.

Only in menu texts (such your item list, your notebook...) you can choose your favorite language.

And, you can put the resolution in 60Hz (you have a little menu selection when the game starts) ;)
