Developer Derek Yu toldPolygon (http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/25/4147190/spelunky-coming-to-playstation-3-and-vita) that the port would be developed by an external studio.
Spelunky was originally released as a freeware PC game (http://spelunkyworld.com/original.html), before being made into a dramatically upgraded XBLA game and a series of excellent toys (http://spelunkyworld.com/merch.html).
