Claims to be the only third party to offer cross-platform support to Microsoft's latest operating systems.
Barnes & Noble's Nook division recently announced it wasentering the freemium market by supporting developers with one-click in-app payments (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/nook-embraces-freemium-says-one-click-in-app-payments-are-imminent/020956), with mobile payments provider Fortumo powering the move.
Now, Fortumo has announced in-app payments support for Microsoft, claiming it's the only third party solution to allow cross-platform integration for WinPho, Windows 8 and Windows RT.
It will enable developers add payments to apps and games across all desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones running the relevant Microsoft OS via a single SDK. Consumers will be able to buy virtual currency and new features in two-clicks.
Martin Koppel, co-founder and chief revenue officer of Fortumo, said: "With Windows Phone we are seeing a repetition of what happened when Android launched – developers who were initially cautious in porting their apps to the new operating system are starting to see Windows Phone as a viable source of revenue.
"Our goal is to help developers who are making the move to Windows Phone easily monetise their users globally and with a more broadly accessible, higher converting payment method than credit cards."
While credit cards may be common in developing countries, Fortumo notes that emerging markets can have as many as ten times more mobile phone users than credit card owners.
John Richards, senior director Windows App Marketing for Microsoft , added: "Windows Store has already seen great traction with developers due to its unprecedented reach in over 200 markets. Microsoft’s flexibility in monetisation and industry-leading revenue sharing gives Windows 8 developers greater potential and more control over their revenue."
Fortumo will process payments for free when developers integrate in-app payments for Windows 8 or Windows Phone by May 31st, 2013. More info here: http://fortumo.com/windows8
