Leading chipmaker Intel has showcased its latest quad-core tablet processors at the firm's annual IDF Bejing conference.
Known only as "Bay Trail" the chip could have a significant on the next-generation of tablet devices, providing additional power, whilst allowing for slimmer designs and longer battery life.
PC makers including the likes of HP, Dell, Lenovo and Acer could all look to reap the benefits of the chip within future tablet products, including the firms' next batch of Windows 8 tablets, which would certainly benefit from the quad-core Bay Trail.
Bay Trail is an "entirely new Atom micro-architecture… will [enable] the most powerful Atom processor to-date, doubling the computing performance of Intel's current-generation tablet offering," said Tan Weng Kuan, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Communications Group, Intel China, at this year's IDF (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/intel-developer-forum-idf/beijing/IDF-2013-Beijing-keynotes.html.html).
The new chip design bundles together four updated Atom cores, which are capable of matching the power of traditional Intel processors in terms of performance.
Expected to feature in new tablet devices by the end of the year, Bay Trail is Intel's first redesign of the Atom chip since its launch back in 2008.
