Sony's Phil Harrison has told European gamers that they can expect over 1000 PS2 titles to be backwards compatible from March 23.

Speaking to semi-official blog Three Speech, Harrison said, "The situation is changing every day, but on March 23, we expect the list to include over 1,000 PS2 titles." Not bad, eh? "We can't give any information about specific titles but, clearly, that would be our policy."

Losing a chip from PS3 will obviously save Sony some cash in making the machine but when will that affect the RRP of PS3? "Price reductions are something that we wouldn't comment on specifically. But you know the business model very well - we strive to get the cost of manufacturing down as soon as possible, and as soon as we can pass cost savings onto the consumers, we will."

And how important is this whole backwards compatibility issue anyway? "I think the reasons why people buy PS3s are the new games that it offers, and the HD content experiences provided by games and movies, the opportunity to access the PlayStation Network, and titles like MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man - leading-edge examples of what next-generation games are all about."

Mr. Phil Harrison is not completely right. Although you buy a new PS3 for its new games and possibilities, you don't want it to lose its old ones, especially if you know that somewhere in the world, people paid $190 less to buy something that is actually better in backwards compatibility...
Oh... By the way Mr. Harrison... 1000 PS2 games are not that much, if you consider that the sum of all PS2 game titles are more than 8000. The European releases do not overcome 3000, so that's why they decided to remove the Emotion Engine. Because Europe doesn't have so many PS2 games to deserve the engine. I don't think it was a bad move. But just cut that damn price for Europe a little.

ive said it before, but here it is again

the price will not change until the majority of the important titles are released and the hype has dyed down...why would anyone with a brain drop a price to a console when major titles like MGS4 and FFXIII are going to make consumers need the console desperatley.?

umm...it's also coming for my 360, so i wouldn't exactly call that a game to get the console for.

there changing the hardware to reduce costs yet not giving us a price reduction. were being treated no less than second class citizens by the retards that are currently driving sony into the ground. now i didnt expect a price drop but then i also didnt consider getting less for my money than what i would have been paying for. (note would)
heres a scenario: you buy a car in a dealership in the usa - it goes 200 odd mph and is electric. (yeah i know unlikely but bear with me) it CAN also run on petrol therefore its like a normal car. now you buy the same car in uk - its basically the same - it runs on electric does 200 odd mph but DOES NOT run on petrol AND costs more. is this fair? i dont bloody think so so why should we pay more for less? because thats what there demanding.
i mean sony wtf are you thinking???

some people dont seem to understand that there is a loss on each console sale...

would you sell something for less than it is worth, make a significant loss. then figure a way to lose less money and instead of using that little change in your losses to help recouporate your business, change your price plan to continue losing out...?
didnt think so!

well as soon as i sell and trade most my games i'll be getting an xbox 360 cause to ya soft mod it and play lots more then the insufficient and insignificant ps3 although that would all change if sony just brings the 20gb ps3 first.

I don't see why Sony released the $500 model PS3. Almost everybody wants the $600 model, and Sony is losing more per console on the $500.

I hope it rums Phantasy Star Universe
My favorite drink is run.
