According to the Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324485004578423522275087936.html?m od=pls_whats_news_us_business_f)
, Microsoft asked Asian suppliers to ship components for a potential watch-style device earlier this year.Additionally, The Verge (http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/17/4234294/microsoft-smartwatch-prototype-surface-connector) claims that Microsoft's wrist-worn device has been in development for over a year. The site understands that the platform holder originally planned to release a heart rate monitor accessory for Xbox, but has since switched focus. Prototypes created by the teams behind Xbox accessories and the Kinect sensor reportedly feature removable bands attached to a 1.5-inch touch display, and one model is said to include the same magnetic power connector Microsoft uses on its Surface tablets. In February, the WSJ also reported (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/390674/apple-reportedly-testing-curved-glass-smartwatch/) that Apple is experimenting with wristwatch-like devices that would perform some functions of a smartphone.
