Nintendo previously confirmed that it had sold three million Wii Us in calendar year 2012, meaning just 450,000 units have been sold in the three months up to March 31st.Wii U’s predecessor Wii sold more than Nintendo’s new home console in the financial year just ended, shifting 3.98 million in the twelve months up to March 31st. It should be noted, though, that Wii U launched at the end of 2012 and Wii was on sale for the entire period. Wii software sales for the year came to 50.61 million units worldwide.On Wii U, Nintendo reported that Nintendo Land (http://www.edge-online.com/review/nintendo-land-review/) has now sold 2.6 million units globally, with New Super Mario Bros U (http://www.edge-online.com/review/new-super-mario-bros-u-review/) shifting 2.15 million. Total Wii U software sales reached 13.42 million worldwide.On 3DS, New Super Mario Bros. 2 (http://www.edge-online.com/review/new-super-mario-bros-2-review/) reached 6.42 million units sold, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf was bought by over three million people in Japan alone. 3DS hardware sales for the year ended March 31stcame to 13.95 million, and total software sales came in at 49.61 million.Net sales were 635.4 billion yen, with 67.1% of that total from overseas sales. Nintendo’s operating loss was 36.4 billion yen, due to the Wii U’s “negative impact” on profits.
